Why do Catholics pray to Mother Mary? Is Rosary really powerful?
The intercession of Mother Mary is very powerful as Jesus cannot neglect His mothers commands.This can be proved by the first miracle Jesus did at the wedding at Cana. – (John 2:1-11). Mother Mary told Jesus “They have no more wine.” And what was the final result? He turned water into wine.
In “The Poem of the Man-God” by Maria Valtorta, she says that Jesus told her about this incident as “I did it for Mary”. This proves that the intercession of Mother Mary is very very strong.
Mother Mary was blessed with Holy Spirit abundantly. We can see this as we read “At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Luke 1:39-41) ; just by Virgin Mary’s greeting.

What the angels thought on this matter:-
When angel appeared before Zechariah,father of John, angel just greets him by his name ,nothing more although he was “upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly.” – (Luke 1:6)
When angel appeared before Joseph, the greeting was like this: “an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – (Matthew 1:20). Angel greeted him ‘son of david’, thats all.
Now let us see how did the angel greet Virgin Mary. It goes like this: “The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28). See the difference….

As I have directed some who states that there is nothing about Mary’s queenship in the bible, can I direct you to Revelations 12 and interpret it for us who “pray” to Mary, especially babu and Phil. God’s ways are far from man’s ways and his doing is far from your doing, read that in Isaiah! In fact, you are crafty with your words and that reminds me of only one other creature in the Bible – the Serpent.
Please do not try to put a veneer on biblical truths to justify the Catholic church’s existence. You cling far tighter to the Catholic church than you do to the Bible. It’s abundantly evident in all that you say. Perhaps if you give God’s word the weight of importance that it deserves, you will find yourself less exasperated to defend or know the truth.

1. An American pastor ( they are all US pastors, sadly ) who runs a very large church, says that St Michael is Jesus – mind you, there was silence in the hall after he said it.

2. Another pastor who likewise runs a very large church, says that in the episode about the witch of Endo, the spirit of Samuel which Saul invoked, was not Samuel but an evil spirit who followed him all his life
3. About 6 weeks ago I saw another pastor teaching that the Jesus that rose from the dead was not the same Jesus that died. He said that God created a new Jesus to return from the grave – again, there was silence in the hall. And I again changed channel.
Where do they get these interpretations from ?

Tha Catholic Bible contains the original books. The protestant bible is an abridged version.

The Catholics put MANY to death in the Inquisition. Why? Because they READ the BIBLE for THEMSELVES?? That will give you the original Greek and Hebrew words along with their meaning.

To every one present here, what ever our thoughts are let it be to us, but what grieves alot to speak out so much here is…. why should ppl break away….. God wants us to be united…. am not pointing out non-catholics alone… every one… Martin Luther was not a baby when he broke off, He was a Catholic Priest, and he wasn’t illiterate to the consequences of his so called reforms, He knew what was going to happen and he knew that God doesn’t want us to break up…. then why should he break off…. why not doing the so called reform inside the church itself like so many others who have succeeded in doing so. Not only Martin Luther, all those who broke out. If you really value each soul on earth you wouldn’t have done it. WHY?
I haven’t read through all of the back-and-forth above, but I have read much of it… and I have a few thoughts that i hope I’m not repeating:
My personal theory is that Mary became such a figurehead in the Catholic church so women would have a female equivolent of the Godhead to look up to. But it does indeed seem that people attribute more powers to Mary than to other saints that do not have to do with her intercessory role as Mother of Jesus: People who pray to/through Mary magically assume that she is capable of listening to uncountable Catholics at one time. Yet as far as I know, human minds can’t listen to more than one thing at one time and process that signal.
When I presented this argument to my godmother, she replied, “well, maybe God gave her that power.” Where is the basis for this idea that God gave Mary god-like powers?
It does not end with her omni-hearing. Other powers that Mary-followers like to ascribe to her is the power to grant indulgences, do miracles, answer prayers without the direct help of Jesus/the Father, etc., especially through medals, prayers (such as the rosary) and other material relics. Such people thus blur the differences between the abilities of humans (such as Mary was) and the abilities of God. They are, in effect, deifying Mary, which is blasphemy. God commanded the people of Israel, “You shall not have other gods before me.” This includes perversions of Mary.
But how come He would be mad pertaining us communicating to His own mother??..:).. what’s wrong with communicating to Mary? in fact she is a woman highly favored by God. I only pray to Mary occasionally, but all my request through her intercession has been answered.. I know it is easy for those people here who “DOESN’T even try this practice” to oppose in praying to Mary here because they don’t know why.. :) It is the same as an atheist to say that he don’t believe in a bible when he doesn’t even try reading it.. But all of us here has our own faith so whatever it is just keep it and DO NOT MAKE OTHERS STUMBLE ON THEIR FAITH..i’ve read that in the Bible but i don’t usually memorize the verses it just retained in my mind..:)) Thank you! there is no intercessor/mediator other than Jesus in bible. Jesus or Apostles never taught us to pray to Mary?I read NT so many times. but i never seen a single verse showing that we must send our prayers to mary!

You make some good points, indeed prayer is not worship per se but you are mistaken about what Roman Catholics do.
Roman Catholics worship Mary, indeed they even have a whole section on why that is right and proper on the Vatican website.
There are 3 questions raised in what you say and I would like to address them in order if I may?
1) Can Mary hear our prayers?
2) Can Mary do anything for us if she hears our prayers?
3) Should we then pray to Mary?
Question 1. Can Mary Hear our Prayers
There is no evidence to suggest that people in heaven, if indeed there are any there yet, are sensible of what is occuring on earth. The only indicator we might have is a parable concerning Lazarus and the poor man and that merely indicated that the dead were conscious of their own plight and unable to warn the living. In Revelation the dead saints are said to be calling out for punishment for the crimes againist the church.
Mary is nowhere mentioned as being conscious or relevant to anyone in Revelation, saints are mentioned, Jesus is mentioned, Angels are mentioned and God is mentioned all of these speak and act but Mary neither gets a mention or gets to speak or gets to act.
2) Can Mary Do Anything If She Hears Our Prayers?
Revelation talks in detail about the end times, it speaks of the persecution of the church and of God’s actions in response to the wickedness of man. God’s response is through Jesus and the Angels. There is no mention of God using anyone other than that to help or advise or assist the Christians going through troubles.
So if Mary can hear the prayers she seems either to be unwilling or unable to do anything and God seems unwilling or unable to use her to help the church. We must conclude therefore that she is unable to act on our behalf even if she can hear our prayers. Fir if she could act there would be some record either in records of the bible or in the prophesy of the bible of her wanting to or indeed acting on the needs of the church.
3) Should we pray to Mary?
Since it is either the case that Mary cannot hear or cannot act then the purpose of the prayer is called in to question. Indeed when the throne room of God is mentioned, this being the place we are told to enter in to with our prayers,she is totally absent and prayers are said to be an incense before God Himself.
The last question then is to whom should we pray.
Many people will say that we should pray to Jesus but they are just as wrong as those that pray to Mary but for different reasons.
Jesus told us how to pray, Paul also did the same. We make our prayers to God who is our loving Father and because we have Jesus to intercede for us we can be sure that God is a willling helper in our cases.
If it is not wrong to pray to Mary it is at least a useless, thankless and resultless exercise because she cannot help. We may as well ask a tree to aid us.
Mary is not working in heaven, she has accomplished all her work and is waiting, as we all are, for the end to come.

Reason: To ask for Mother Mary’s intercession
intercession – helps to plead with God for your needs and the needs of others.
Reasons: It is much stronger to worship and plead to God with other believers. Analogy? Two is better than one. It’s just like that. It’s like Mother Mary is with us when we pray with her intercession. “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them”..Jesus said that, Didn’t he??
It is also in the Bible that “Pray for your brothers and sisters” ..
Mary can also pray for us as well as we can pray to others..simple as that..it’s our doctrine.. You don’t even know profoundly our doctrine and then you attack us..hmmmm..Don’t just look the word “PRAY” on one dimension ‘coz we’re on the 3-D world..:D
Difference:
we pray to Mary not to worship her..see the above reason..:D
we pray to God and worship only Him..
I read the Bible not to judge and mock others, I read the Bible to guide my life everyday by the Holy Spirit. :) ..
I’ve read the comments and just wonder why we fight with this.. We all believe in God, We all believe in Jesus..
Mary is my inspiration which strengthen my faith with God.. what’s wrong with that? My conscience tells me it’s not wrong. So i’ll continue with what i believed..:))
But my insight is not applied to all Catholics..of course, we are diff from each other but we are one..:))

there’s no verse also in the Bible “NOT” to ask for Mary’s intercession .. :D .. it’s not like a sin of murder that it is really written there.. is it? If you say idolatry, we don’t..:) we just consider her as one who has the capability to help in pleading to God..
There is no verse that says not to beat your wife, no verse that says not to molest children, no verse that says not eat faeces, no verse that says not to kill all the trees, plants and animals on the planet.Which of those are you thinking of doing next? We are told, by Jesus, how to pray. You seem to think that not doing something that Jesus told us to do is OK?
Paul tells us how to pray, you are also willing to ignore him. Why is it that what the Pope says matters more than the direct words of Jesus Christ and the Apostle to the Gentiles Paul?
If your conscience were a sensible guide as to what to do and what not to do there would be no need for the Holy Spirit to convict of sin, no need for the renewal of your mind or for the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in bringing many sons to glory.
Your heart (where your conscience is) is deceitfully wicked above all other things according to the bible. I suggest you find another guide. Jesus taught using scripture, so use the guide he used.
I am glad that you find Mary inspirational, so why not follow your inspiration and do what she did? Copy her example and submit to Christ, she did not pray to anyone other than God so be like her and pray to God, she did not bow down to or venerate saints so be like her and don’t do it either.
The bible says that where 2 or 3 are gathered in the name of Jesus then He is in their midst. Mary cannot gather with you because she is dead and beyond your troubles and her troubles. She has run the course, she is not touched with your infirmities but Jesus is.
are you sure there is no verse “not to beat your wife”? or you just can’t see the 3-D picture when Jesus said “two people become one through marriage”..”Love others as you love yourself” How do you love? -not to molest children?..(it is also in the Bible sexual immorality is a sin).. :)..well, you can eat your feces if you want,you never know, it can cure something.. like drinking your urine,many has done it,drinking urine..:D..
And the one thing the Holy Spirit has given us is our conscience..when you don’t have conscience you don’t have the grace of God.. Conscience tells you what is right or wrong.. We ask the help of Mary with our clear conscience.. And conscience tells me now that fighting you with this when each of us has our different stand is foolishness..:) can you get my point? or we’re not getting each other’s point..haha.. And one thing I ask..please read what the rosary contains.. You can see there the “Our Father” the Lord has taught us..
I’m only 21 and have more to learn from this life, but for now I really believe Mary has the capability to intercede.. :)).. but i am open to any corrections God will put unto me, but for now, He hasn’t troubled my conscience when i ask the intercession of Mama Mary..:)..
