Why do Catholics pray to Mother Mary? Is Rosary really powerful?
The intercession of Mother Mary is very powerful as Jesus cannot neglect His mothers commands.This can be proved by the first miracle Jesus did at the wedding at Cana. – (John 2:1-11). Mother Mary told Jesus “They have no more wine.” And what was the final result? He turned water into wine.
In “The Poem of the Man-God” by Maria Valtorta, she says that Jesus told her about this incident as “I did it for Mary”. This proves that the intercession of Mother Mary is very very strong.
Mother Mary was blessed with Holy Spirit abundantly. We can see this as we read “At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Luke 1:39-41) ; just by Virgin Mary’s greeting.

When angel appeared before Zechariah,father of John, angel just greets him by his name ,nothing more although he was “upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly.” – (Luke 1:6)
When angel appeared before Joseph, the greeting was like this: “an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – (Matthew 1:20). Angel greeted him ‘son of david’, thats all.
Now let us see how did the angel greet Virgin Mary. It goes like this: “The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28). See the difference….

I do love the Blessed Virgin Mary… and She do loves us all, A humble mother having a pure heart of faith and humility above all. A simple thought that, the God -the Father chooses her to be a Mother of Jesus..the Son of God our Savior,.. and the Holy Spirit. Nothing to question the plan and will of God in choosing her, just humbly believe . Coz Mary’s paricipation in the salvation and life of Jesus is definitely difficult, but she faithfully accepted by courage of her love to God… Continue to Respect her by emulating her virtues and values. Why should we pray to Mary ? She is just a woman choosen by the God to be the earthly woman of Jesus Christ. She born Jesus, this does not mean that we have to worship her because there is only one GOD (FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT). no one takes place of HIM. Everybody knows that Bible teaches us not to bow and worship anybody except GOD. Mary was just a blessed woman of all woman this does not mean She is the queen of heaven and angel. There’s no more details about her in the Bible to show that we have to worship her. This was God’s planning to choose her for Jesus. There is one Mediator between God and Mankind that is Jesus Christ. He came to save us and open the door for us sothat we could directly to Our Father. We do not need to pray Other Saints because Saints were just earthly man not a God. Jesus broke the wall between God and Man. We directly prays not indirectly. So, I think Jesus is our Salvation not Mary. She was just a blessed woman of all.

Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, Jesus also prayed Himself. On no occasion did Jesus or any NT or OT person suggest praying to anyone other than God.
Prayer and worship are due only to God, to pray or worship any other is to make an idol.

The Catholic Church (not the Roman Church) decided what books, of those that already existed, should be part of the canon. They chose those books which contained all that was necessary for salvation. all that was good Christian practice. I suggest you read the Catholic Encyclopaedia for more information.
With regards to prayers offered to anyone other than God we have the words of Jesus that we should pray to God. We have the words of Paul as well and various others. Can you indicate one place in the whole of the bible (the Rule of what is good doctine – Canon means Rule) where we are encouraged or told to pray to anyone other than God?
As for those 7 books, they were never intended to be used to make doctrine. Plus the oldest Mss contain books that the RCC doesn’t accept for doctrine either :-)
Now since the bible is the rule of faith (hence the name Canon) we can read therein all that we need to know and do in order to follow Christ.
So there is an issue, the scriptures predate the RCC, they predate all of the specially RC doctrines and yet you insist that we listen to the RCC rather than the Fathers and the Scriptures. You ignore tradition and yet claim to follow it.
You also claim that the Protestant Rule of Faith didn’t exist before the Reformation. This is clearly untrue but regardless when was the RCC’s rule of faith completed? Your last dogma was added in 1950, up until then your rule of faith exlcuded something that you now claim automatically makes you a heretic if you don’t believe it!
I won’t bore the readers with all the instances where RCC doctrine and dogma is explicitly denied by the Fathers and scripture.

And all of them were not give over night like some sort of magic showering down from heaven. Our God the Father did not give Moses the 10 commandments in just a single night. Have you ever been to south India, there is a whole district (Velankanni-Our Lady of Good Health) that answers your question. Mother Mary appeared to Portuguese sailors during a tempest in Bay of Bengal East of India, with all the attributes in Rev 12. And saved them from raging sea. I don’t have to say all this , but then if u still don’t change, face Our Lord on the final judgment and know the Truth.

Now when you can base your arguments from the very Bible that belongs to the Catholic Church, how can anyone prove that ‘Venerating’ Mother Mary is wrong. The Bible’ main focus is on Jesus, with apostles and Mother Mary to explain the scenario. No one in the history of the Bible was greeted by an Arch-Angel like Mother Mary was greeted “Hail Mary”.
Today in society, we believe in influencing the people around a person in a powerful position, then, what’s wrong in asking Mother Mary who was all the more Holy. When you can say that Abraham was the Father of Faith, he himself would’ve been proud at what Mother Mary achieved and attributed the respect that was required.
If people say, do not worship Mother Mary, I understand, since no one in the Catholic Church worships Mother Mary, its blasphemy, whoever says is either does not know what they talk about, or have not understood what the Catholic Church is all about, just bashing for lost cause.
Mother Mary did accept God into her life on her Own Freewill, she could’ve said no and left in lurch all those who now argue against her. If you can ask your local church pastor to pray for you or your endeavours, what is wrong in asking the Mother of God.

I can see you people repeat one thing saying Jesus is Mary’s Son. Please understand the truth Jesus is the son of God, just to bring him on earth Mary was chosen. He says in Matthew 12:46-50 that anyone who follows Jesus is His mother and brothers. Jesus himself does not call her mother but calls her as ‘woman’ but sad thing is in RC bible it is written as if Jesus called her ‘Mother’ not as ‘Woman’.
God chose Abraham to be father of many nations. God chose Moses to lead the people of Israel. God has chosen each of his sons and daughters for a purpose. And even God had chosen Mary for a purpose and she said ‘yes’ to it. You talk as if Mary has done a favor to God but it is God who has done favor to her.

By Mathew 12:46-50, don’t you think God proved to people then and now, that it was Mary his Mother, also known as Woman even in Catholic Bibles (Understand that the Bibles across the world in whatever format/editions are originally Catholic Bibles, so let’s put this Bible originality to rest. All the other editions, etc., are taken from the Catholic Church and modified to suit their denominations) was the only one who prepared herself, to receive God in Spirit and give him a Human Form, i.e., Jesus.
Noah did not carry God in his womb, nor Abraham, nor Moses, nor David, nor Solomon, none of them carried God in their womb. The reason I’m mentioning this is they fulfilled God’s will and are you aware that Abraham understood why God asked him to sacrifice Issac and only after understanding did he take his Son-Issac to be sacrificed, the meaning was The Cross that the redeemer will take up, die for mankind and rise up on the 3rd Day. Now for this to be fulfilled, it required a person who was Chaste, Holy, Pure, Enduring, blame-less, Poverty, humble, the entire attributes of the Holy Spirit was required from This Person – since it was going to be the Child of the Holy Spirit that was to be carried in the Womb, nurtured, taken care for 30-Years, before the Child could grow into a wonderful person of Jesus Christ. And the Holy Spirit would lead and guide this person all through her Life.
Now, if today a person, lets take an example of a pastor, who has got the gift of the Holy Spirit, is commended for his preaching, healings and all the good work that he has done, will you not appreciate this person, and ask him to pray for you, place his hands on you and bless you.
Jesus said, what good it is to pray for your friends and relatives, even pagans do that. He asked his believers to pray for their enemies, people who curse you.
Are we living a Life like he asked us to?
Mary did all these. If she did not, then Simeon would not have predicted/foretold that a Sword would pierce her Heart, and I believe Her Immaculate Heart. Never would this have been foretold, if God just wanted a surrogate mother. And I don’t think that was the plan of God. But rather he wanted a Model Person, a Person whom he promised to Adam, and again through Isaiah to King Ahaz, to mankind. And when it happened, it was not through any Prophet that he asked Mary, but through his Arch-Angel Gabriel. Mary did a favour, but not to God, but to herself (being from the tribe of Essenes) and to the whole mankind through generations, because salvation became a reality after 1000’s of years through Mary.
So you can conclude what kind of a Person we are talking about in the Person of Mary, Mother Of God.

To conclude and relating to your words ‘RC bible’the latter is the authentic bible of the church that Jesus formed via the Holy Ghost.Non Catholic productions are many containing various contradictions and lack of agreement.And as I wrote in a previous comment even Martin Luther changed the contents to fit his own non inspired opinions.
I’ll approach veneration in this manner.If you offered special hospitality to the children of your long time friends then ultimately you are offering a sign of love to your friends themselves.This is analogous to the veneration of saints.When we honour those who spent their lives seeking intimate union with God,we are also honouring God who is the object of their love.Thus to venerate the saints is pleasing to God and uktimately gives Him glory when we honour those who excelled in love of Him.Which is true of honouring Mary because of her special role in union with Jesus her Son.The latter is a basic principle of the mystical body of Christ and the communion of saints.
Please understand salvation is possible only through Jesus the son of God. If that is going to be through Mary (as you say) than it indirectly means you say that she is also God.
If you read Luke 2:41-52 it is clear that Jesus, even as He was young was with the spirit of God, not only after 30 years of age.
And God in no situation asked any of pastors or any elders to pray for anyone. He asked to call upon His name in the times of trouble and He will answer them and in John 14:13 He says to ask anything in His name and will be granted. So you believe our God is a loving God and does not show partiality, so anyone can call upon His name and you will be answered .
If anyone else prays for you (for example) it may be even a saint and any blessed person the things or request might be granted but you can never came closer to God and experience His true love. And even nowhere in bible it says to ask for intersession of anyone even angels or saints or Mary.

Mary is just the earthly mother. If you say that she is the real mother of Jesus then that means you say that Jesus is a man not God or son of God. If you have read John’s gospel Jesus was the Word, Word was God and the Word was there from beginning even before world was created. So we should bow down only before God and His son Jesus not anyone other than that.
Can you tell me what were the changes Martin Luther King made from the original version…..And one information is even in protestants no pastors marry anyone. And to go deep into that God from the time of Aaron did not say that priests should not marry. Even Aaron was married and so his sons were. So why do you create new things which is not told by God.
God nowhere asked anyone to venerate do you think you are doing something great by this, do you think God likes this, is that said anywhere in he bible to do that.
I was a Catholic myself, recently converted to pentecost. Catholic priests speak about Mary half the time (already the sermon is only for 20 minutes). Is this what you mean by veneration. You people are not teaching others about God as it should have been done but just stick onto your catholic traditions. The masses conducted are just like some process.

In relation to prayer if we look at the Old Testament we can confirm that the Jewish people manifested faith in the intercession of the saints- Judas the Maccabean( 2Mac15:11-16,and in the ability of the angels and saints to offer prayers at the feet of God and support them with their intercession(cf.Tob12:12;Rev5:8,8:3)
From the New Testament St.Paul asked for prayerful intercession from many OTHER DISCIPLES (Rom 15:30;Col4:3;1Thes 5:25)and also referred to his prayers for them(2Thes1:11).And since Heaven is a state of God’s living saints Paul still (Mk12:26-27),can continue his prayers for his fellow members of the Body of Christ.
Therefore since Mary is the mother of the Head and of the Body,her maternal intercession rightfully has an exalted ability to bring her earthly children closer to Jesus.That is why we pray to Mary.Bible based as well as tradition based arising from the Magisterium of the Church of Christ.

I understand that Paul in almost each of his letter asked others to pray for him. But please understand one thing when apostle Paul asked others to pray, he had also prayed for them as mentioned in 2Timothy 1:3, Philemon verse 4 and He prayed for himself as in 2Corinthians 12:8. If you give this as reference can i ask are Catholics praying to God for Mary as they are asking her to pray.
When people pray to Mary they forget God and almost keep her equal to God. Praying for others and asking others to pray is different and praying to one person (as mentioned in the title) who is not a God is different and a sin.
No Mary was conceived without sin and this was God redeeming her through a ‘preservative redemption’.The latter is a redemption brought about through the merits of her son on Calvary and applied to Mary at the moment of her conception.The graces merited by Jesus upon Calvary kept her immaculate to ensure that her purity arose from her being in a state to conceive God- purity itself. God who, by nature,is out of time applied this preventative redemption to the Mother of His Son.This unique act ensured that Jesus would have a fitting mother who would give him an immaculate human nature in a full maternal way.Thus God ensured that Mary merited the title given to her by Gabriel,”full of grace”(Lk 1:28)

Being the mother of God it would be absurd to pray for Mary.Mary does not need our prayers but we need hers.
The redemption brought us the grace to follow Jesus and enter Heaven but bear in mind we humans still possess free will and still can deny redemption.
In fact I recall one member of the denomination groupings here in Ireland stating that he was redeemed by faith in Jesus and yet could go and kill a Catholic during our recent troubles.He was convinced he was saved because he believed in Jesus.Yes, redeemption has saved us but we still have to cooperate with the grace that Christ obtained for us.If we dont we are not redeemed.We have to play our part.

Do the so called Christians really understand the Bible, to argue so much about Mother Mary. If you say She was with Sin, She had childred after Jesus, by quoting from the Bible – his Mother & Brothers, Sisters, etc., then none of you understand the will of God, and bring down Jesus by saying he was born of a sinner. So in this context, he can only a common prophet and Not the Saviour.
The Bible was consolidated and most of the contents were retained to focus only on Jesus, as the central theme. Are you so called Non-Catholics aware that there existed none other Bibles, other than the Roman Catholic Bible, (hope it is understood that after Christianity taking over Rome, the centre of Power of the Ancient World, it was called Roman Catholic Church, meaning Universal Christian Church), there were none other denominations, since the Catholic Church or Christian Church was the only faith to propagated the Life, Death & Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mary since that time was given prominence.
As I mentioned from the previous mail, where did all you people come from. Various denominations have cropped every nook and corner, to make fame, money & what not!

When did you get your Bible from?
Did it come from the One and Only Church, viz., The Roman Catholic Church. If Not, then your Bible is a Lie.
So what are your pursuing by bringing up topics, about Mary, Rosary, etc., teaching the Catholic Church what to do and what not to do. Are you trying to teach God himself about his appointed Servant, Mary-who achieved more than anyone else put together in the Bible.
Do you mean that after Jesus, Mary carried on with her Life with Joseph, had children and lived a life like others?
What blind servants all of you are? How can you comfortably ignore whatever little is mentioned about Mother Mary. What do you hear and read from the Bible, selective passages to comfort your whims & fancies? For all those who have left the Catholic Church, You could’nt stay with the Church which has existed for 2000 Yrs, went in search of some denomination, and now in your glorified avatar come back and say that we are blind, worship idols, and what not?
Aren’t you all liars, in the first place to modify the original Catholic Bible and then call it the Protestant Bible, or some other Bible, and say that you are preaching the word of God. There seems to be no originality.
Lets have some original discussions, rather than trying to put down a pious Lady, whose only thing is life was to say “Yes” to God’s plan.
Open your Hearts, not just your eyes, As Paul says, that all will come together, including the Jews in the final days. Even now do not just follow blindly, but like Abraham, gain insight as to what you believe in and then follow that belief.

According to Paul(cf.Rom 5-8;Hebrews 2),the consequences of satan’s seed,evil,are twofold: sin and death(or bodily corruption). Therefore,Mary,who shared in the victory of Jesus over satan and his seed,would have to be saved from both sin and death or corruption.
Now being conceived without sin its logical to believe that she triumphed over death (specifically corruption of the body)at the end of her time here on earth.
Jesus is number 1 at honouring his Father and his Mother (4th Commandment)i.e.son of God and son of Mary.Thus it is reasonable within the context of a God who is love himself and pure logic that he uniquely honoured his mother by keeping her from corruption of the grave, and secondly,granting her a glorification of the body in heaven prior to the general resurrection of the body of all saints on the last day.

Where in your remark does Paul refer to Mary?Or is it the influence of satan manipulating your thinking about the Mother of God? What must Our Saviour think about your and other constant attacks upon his beloved Mother and his sacred word?If alive do you treat your natural mother in a similar manner as you do your heavenly Mother?

In all love and in all truth may I state that if God in reality thought of or reacted to the Virgin Mary like those non Catholic contributors to this debate I would have to conclude that I could not acknowledge Him as my Father- the God who is Love.
And one of the reasons is as follows:if I was to accept what some of the non-Catholic contributers have stated, that is, that Our Creator just willy/nilly picked a human to bring His Son into humanity,use her, and then abandon her…Then that conception of God is not what I adhere to for my God is REALLY LOVE!
Thus it would appear that as well has abusing the Bible by picking and choosing sections in accordance with their personal prejudices, that is, manipulating the words of its authors to lower the prestige of or by an attack on the Mother of God in some manner,etc,they have removed themselves from the Grace of Our Saviour’s Spirit.For I know that Jesus the Man-God is Love and that he loves his Mother,Mary.

For your information in my about comment i mentioned worshiping Mary (or any other saint for that matter) is a sin. I did not talk about Mary whether she sinned or not. And please understand one thing in the bible it mentioned Jesus came down as a sin for the salvation of the world and He was sinless. Nowhere it is mentioned that Mary was without sin. Believe in the Bible alone not in your own assumptions.
