Learn From Mistakes

Learn From Mistakes

“The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continually fearing you will make one” – Elbert Hubbard. All who wanted to succeed in life have made mistakes. That does not mean that one has to do some blunder in order to succeed! All that it means is mistakes do happen in life.

There are many folks who believe that successful people never make any mistake, only ignorant ones do. But the opposite is true. In fact, there is a book called “Einstein’s Mistakes” which describes some major failures he had in his profession.

The late Steve Jobs (Apple) and Bill Gates (Microsoft) have experienced failures. Thomas Alva Edison discovered the light bulb after many failed attempts. Once, when asked about his results, Edison replied, “I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won’t work!”

If you want to start 2012 afresh and maintain that freshness, you got to have a mindset to learn from mistakes. You may not be perfect in all that you do in this year. But you can enjoy every moment of this year with such a mindset.

In fact, you can benefit from mistakes if you can handle them positively.

1. Mistakes can lead you to discovery.
You may be working on something. But you may end up discovering something else! This is the case of the Microwave Oven and Post-it Notes.

2. Mistakes can lead you to a solution.
You may have thought that you blew it. But in fact you found the solution that you were trying to find!

3. Mistakes can make you more knowledgeable.
That is what happened to Thomas Edison. He understood what won’t work as a result of his failures.

4. Learn from mistakes and then, dump them!
You don’t need to cling on to mistakes. When it happens, get the message and then throw them out. Don’t regret over your mistakes. Employ what you learned from them.

In order to start this New Year afresh, we must be ready to learn from mistakes.

In the next post, we are going to deal with the seventh step to starting 2012 afresh. Meanwhile, what are some of the principles you learned from the mistakes you made? Jot them down in the comments section below.

End of The World

End of the World

According to the Mayan Calender, December 21st, 2012, is going to be the end of the world. This ancient prediction has been the catalyst for countless popular movies, novels, conspiracy theories, and intellectual debates. Even people who usually don’t put much stock in this type of thing are wondering if we are all about to go the way of the dinosaur.

The 2012 doomsday theory is arguably the most popular of its kind, even surpassing the Y2K scare and the mistaken assumption that life was going to grind to a halt in the year 2000.

Causes for End of the World

The exact cause of the end of the world differs from theorist to theorist. Some believe that a planet named Nibiru (also known as Planet X) is going to crash into earth and wipe everything out. NASA denies the existence of this planet, insisting that we would be able to see it by now in the sky if the theory were true, but proponents of this theory insist that Nibiru is hiding behind the sun.

Other theories include black holes swallowing the earth whole, asteroid collisions that could cause an explosion big enough to destroy all life as we know it, and a super solar flare that may shut down all power on earth or even burn us to a crisp.

Another popular theory is that a pole reversal is going to be our downfall, and many advocates of 2012 theories believe a galactic alignment will herald the beginning of the end for humanity and every other form of life on planet earth.

Some authors and speakers in the New Age religion do not think that 2012 will be a time of death and destruction for our planet. Instead, they think it will be a time of spiritual change and great awakening that may even turn out to be a positive thing. However, average folks aren’t too keen on change, and anything that is going to pull them out of their comfortable routines is perceived as a threat, including this New Age theory.

How Your Faith Can Save You

These things can be frightening to think about, but if you are a person of faith you have nothing to worry about. One of the nice things about having faith in something spiritual is that physical events do not have much effect on the outcome of your day one way or the other. Of course, this type of detachment to the physical realm is often easier said than done, but faith in something bigger than ourselves and even this earth can be a comfort to almost anyone in trying times.

While it might be good fun to splurge a bit on expensive items, you don’t want to get yourself into credit card debt or other undesirable predicaments, since it’s likely that December 21st, 2012, will come and go without changing a single thing here on earth.

All throughout history people have been predicting the end of the world, and so far it hasn’t happened. Trust in whatever faith you have that, one way or the other; everything is going to be okay.

Choose To Be Bold

Choose To Be Bold

“No great discovery was ever made without a bold guess.” – Isaac Newton

It takes boldness to accomplish your plans for 2012. All that timidity accomplishes is ‘nothing’.

—————— —————— ——————

Speaking about boldness, here is a funny story. An elderly lady was well-known for her faith and for her boldness in talking about it. She would stand on her front porch and shout, “Praise the Lord!” Next door to her lived an atheist who would get so angry at her proclamations he would shout, “There ain’t no Lord!!”

Hard times set in on the elderly lady and she prayed for God to send her some assistance. She stood on her porch and shouted, “Praise the Lord!! God, I need FOOD!! I am having a hard time. Please, Lord, send me some groceries!!”

The next morning, the lady went out on her porch and saw a large bag of groceries and shouted, “Praise the Lord!!” The neighbor jumped from behind a bush and said, “Ha Ha!! I told you there was no Lord. I bought those groceries. God didn’t.”

The lady started jumping up and down and clapping her hands and saying, “PRAISE THE LORD!!! He not only sent me groceries, but He made the devil pay for them!!”

—————— —————— ——————

The Scripture declares that “the righteous are as bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1 NIV). It’s not by chance that the two words – ‘righteous’ and ‘lion’ came together. The one who embraces the righteousness of Christ is the only one who can stand up boldly and do ‘lion-kind’ acts! Choose to be bold.

Talking about boldness, there are two ways to understand it:-

1. Inner Boldness – Though boldness is a gift of God, it rises from our spirit. It permeates our minds with images and thoughts of valor.

2. Outer Boldness – Boldness has to be acted out. It is not a concept. It is an act. It is not shy to appear in public!

God hasn’t given us boldness to ‘play it safe’. No, He gave it to help us accomplish His plans in this New Year.

As you launch out, you will soon confront an enemy called Opposition. It can come in various forms, through various people, and at various times. The one thing that Opposition is afraid of more than any other is Boldness! That’s why God commanded Joshua, “…Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NIV).

Being bold doesn’t mean that you don’t ‘feel’ fear. Being bold is all about acting bold in spite of fear! But once you start acting boldly, fear loses its grip over you.

So, remember: You must choose to be bold to start this year afresh!

In the next post, we are going to have the sixth step to starting 2012 afresh. In the meantime, how did you find boldness working wonders in your life? Add your comments below in the comments section.
