Why Pray To Virgin Mary?

chittor-mother-mary-statue

Why should we pray to Virgin Mary? The reasons are many.

Why do Catholics pray to Mother Mary? Is Rosary really powerful?

The intercession of Mother Mary is very powerful as Jesus cannot neglect His mothers commands. This can be proved by the first miracle Jesus did at the wedding at Cana. – (John 2:1-11). Mother Mary told Jesus “They have no more wine.” And what was the final result? He turned water into wine.

In “The Poem of the Man-God” by Maria Valtorta, she says that Jesus told her about this incident as “I did it for Mary”. This proves that the intercession of Mother Mary is very very strong.

Mother Mary was blessed with Holy Spirit abundantly. We can see this as we read “At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Luke 1:39-41) ; just by Virgin Mary’s greeting.

Listen to the talk from Apologetics on Mary, Purgatory and The Bible

What the angels thought on this matter:-

When angel appeared before Zechariah, father of John, angel just greets him by his name ,nothing more although he was “upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly.” – (Luke 1:6)

When angel appeared before Joseph, the greeting was like this: “an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” – (Matthew 1:20). Angel greeted him ‘son of david’, thats all.

Now let us see how did the angel greet Virgin Mary. It goes like this: “The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28). See the difference….

  1. I believe that Mary is an Angel in heaven now an we should pray to her she is one of Gods greatest gifts to us.

    Love and Blessings,
    AngelBaby

  2. I agree that Mary holds a special place being the handmaid of the Lord unto which she accepted her role to be the Mother of Jesus while still a virgin. Mary is necessary as part of the plan for salvation. Sin entered the world through one man (Adam) and one woman (Eve). As such it is necessary that the Messiah (true God and true man) enters the world as a child born of a woman(Mary)for Grace to enter into the world to save all.

However, just because she was highly favoured in the greeting of the angel does not mean we have to pray to her! Many great man (and women) were also highly favoured and even walked with God, e.g. Enoch and Noah. In fact, God took Enoch – And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.(Genesis 5:21) Then there is also Elijah who was also taken up into heaven. Even Moses (And He buried him [Moses]in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day. Deut.34:6). Many men and women were chosen and filled with the Grace of God and they too where handmaids of the Lord to carry out His will. Should we pray to them too? Should we also pray to Abraham, our father in faith? God chose him over all the inhabitants of the earth to make His covenant and choose His people.

When we pray we only pray to Our Father in heaven as the Son (Jesus) commands us – Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4. For anything we ask the father in Jesus’ name, it will be granted to us. Jesus is our only way to the Father (John 14: 6, 10 -11, 28; 16:32). Why do we need any other thing or person to get us to God? (Rom. 10:9) . St. Paul explicitly mentions in Galatians 1:6-10 – 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Cease all prayer to Mary for she is only human and has passed on. Salvation is only in Jesus. Amen. Come Lord Jesus.

  3. Hi Joseph,

I think you missed an important thing.

JOHN 19:26-27 — When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”

Thus just before dying, Jesus gave all of us ‘a new mother’, Mother Mary. This means she holds the place of our Holy Mother and we can approach this Holy Mother for intercession.

Rosary is very powerful. It has done many wonders. John Paul II said, “The best prayer I like is the Rosary”.

And above all, my personal experience with this powerful prayer is just enough for me, to keep praying for Virgin Mary’s intercession.

  4. wow!! first off, according to scripture, Joseph (above) is on point. Georgey, just because Jesus made that statement TO THE DISCIPLES (not the church)doesn’t means it is for us today. Jesus meant that just like she was an earthly mother to Him, she would be an earthly mother to the disciples.
This is the facts: How many times is Mary mentioned in the bible order than relating to the birth and raising of Jesus? ZERO! There are more references to King David and Abraham but no one prays to them. God had favor by choosing Mary even though He could have chosen anyone else. THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY PLAYER IN GOD’S SALVATION – JESUS CHRIST. EVERYONE ELSE, INCLUDING MARY WAS/IS REPLACEABLE.
Rosary??? I don’t remember Jesus or his disciples praying the rosary!! Paul, John or Peter never prayed the rosary (according to scripture anyways). God, thru His Spirit, lives in the heart of true believers by the blood of Jesus… it’s has nothing to do with Mary. Mary was human like you and me and when you die, you can’t do anything for anyone.

I pray the Lord opens your eyes to his truths.

  5. THE ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER IS JESUS CHRIST
THATS IT JESUS SAID IT DEAL WITH IT. IT IS THE FATHER SON AND THE HOLY SPRIT. GOD does not share his glory with no one. you should focus on GOD and no human. please dont pray to a man made statue i know you have read the 10 ten commandments–thou shall have no other GOD BEFORE ME.

  6. I think that is absolutely truth to pray to The Virgin Mary, SHE asks to the people to pray the rosary.

To pray the rosary gives us a big strength for confronting all the bad situations in the life and peace in the heart.

The Virgin Mary is the most special, She is The Mother of Jesus.
The Virgin Mary and Jesus are the best examples for accepting the will of God with absolutely love.

Honor and Glory to God , The Virgin Mary and Jesus.

  7. I think it’s important for us to realize that we do not directly pray to mary we pray with her and we pray for her intercession. we pray with mary and the saints because we know that they are with god and closer to him than we are here on earth. the rosary is a meditation and the whole point is focusing on jesus’ life which we call mysteries such as his baptism, his annunciation… etc.
  8. The bible doesn’t say anywhere that we are to pray to Mary, this is an addition to The Holy Bible, which God forbides, no one should add or take away from the Word of God. Jesus never prayed to Mary and we are to immitate Him, also he says that anyone who does God’s will are His brother, mother, and sister,(Mathew 12:43-50) Mary was an ordinary human being that succomb to sin just as any other sinner: There is only one who will help us to pray, which is in the Holy Spirit, Mary is not part of the Trinity; The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Salvation is in Christ and Christ alone. God Bless you all!
  9. We should not pray to Mary or anyone else who has died. The Bible tell us that ALL who die in Christ are saints and “normal” people are no acception. The Scriptures also tell us that ALL has sinned including Mary so why pray to one who has sinned equal to one who hasn’t.Mary cannot give the Gift of Salvation but only recieve it just as we do.The ONLY one who should be prayed to is the one who payed the price for our sin who is the Lord Jesus. We have the same exact rights as Mary to pray to God but remember that there were Prophets before mary who spoke on behalf of God Most High that actually spoke for God.Though they [both mary and the prophets] were great Spiritual Giants we should not pray to any of our brothers or sisters in heaven and Mary or the Apostles are no acception.Hope this helps, God Bless.
  10. Mary: Recipient of Prayer
Catholic doctrine commands members to pray to the virgin Mary:

“By asking Mary to pray for us, we acknowledge ourselves to be poor sinners and we address ourselves to the ‘Mother of Mercy,’ the All-Holy One… May she welcome us as our mother at the hour of our passing to lead us to her son, Jesus, in paradise.” Pg. 644, #2677
It is imperative that you know whether these statements are from God or merely traditions of men. Therefore, we will examine each statement:

Asking Mary to pray for us: A tradition of men, not found in the Bible.
Mother of Mercy: Another tradition of men.
Mary is the All Holy One: A tradition of men. We’ve already shown that God is the only “All Holy One.”
Mary welcomes us at death: A tradition of men, not taught in the Bible.
Mary leads us to Jesus: Another tradition of men, not found in God’s Word.
Please understand, Catholic friend, God never said any of these things. They are all traditions that came from the minds of early Catholic leaders:

“From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of `Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs…” Pg. 253, #971
That people should pray to Mary in their times of trouble is another tradition of men concocted by Catholic leaders of the past and handed down to Catholics today. Never does Jesus or anyone else in the Bible instruct people to pray to Mary.

    Who should we pray to?

The Bible directly contradicts the Catechism by directing people to pray to God alone:

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3
“And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Psalm 50:15

When trouble comes, call upon God, not Mary:

“Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer… In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.” Psalm 86:6, 7
“He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.” Psalm 91:15

Literally hundreds of Scriptures teach us to flee to God when trouble comes our way. Not a single verse encourages us to pray to Mary:

“But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.” Psalm 37:39
“O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.” Isaiah 33:2

“Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.” Psalm 41:1

Should you cast your burdens on Mary?

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
King David prayed all through the day… to God:

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” Psalm 55:17
    The psalmist proclaimed:

“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
In the New Testament we read:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
    Who will you pray to?

God’s Word says pray to God. Catholicism would rather have you pray to Mary. Again, one must wonder why the Catechism demotes Jesus and exalts Mary. It seems the Catholic church does not want its members going to Jesus for anything. Yet, Jesus issued this invitation:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Either the Bible is wrong, or Catholicism is keeping you away from the One who is ready and willing to meet your every need.

    Conclusion

Here is another critical decision you must make. Will you follow the Catholic traditions of men and pray to Mary?

Or will you obey the Holy Scriptures and direct your prayers to God?

“As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.” Psalm 55:16

  11. Hey there..

    To all you people..

    Just tell me one thing..

Is there anywhere written in the Bible, that we need to pray to Mary??

This was just created by early Christians..

Tell you what, I was born catholic.
But I dnt believe in Catholic church anymore.

Coz they Catholic church is the Antichrist, Who worship idols. they worship the SUN god.which the Egyptians did.
The satan has fooled everyone of us.
    I’m just a comman man.
You need to listen to the people who were priest & cardinals in the vatican.. Listen to what they have to say..
Very much inspiration for the Ex-Jesuit priest Dr.Alberto rivera,

    Revelation is clearly reveled…

  12. Asking for Mary’s intercession is NOT praying to her. There is a very big difference. When you’re in a bible study and someone says they have a prayer request and they would like you to pray for something or someone they are not PRAYING to you! They are asking you to pray for them to the Lord our God.

St. Paul reminds us that we are more alive in Christ when we are dead. You must first understnd how the body of Christ works, how powerful the cloud of witnesses are above us. They are not concerned of earthly things any more, but only God’s kingdom. Thus being still united to Christ (even more so in death) they can pray for us! How valuable are the prayers of those connected to Christ, we are one body and death does not seperate us. This is why Mary can pray for us, but we do not pray to Mary.

These posts contain anger or disagreement to what people think they know about the Catholic faith, yet none actually argured against the truth of what is taught. For it is far easier to argue a false understanding than actually look at what is taught, for that might reveal facts anti catholics do not want to know. I know this becaus I persecuted the Catholic faith for decades until God in his mercy brought me to His Catholic Church 2 years ago.

Every position I oppossed was due to a gross misunderstanding and misrepresentation like perpetrated above.

Remember Chirst came for Salvation and to start a Church. That Church is still in existence and has grown from 12 men to 1.6 billion, praise God.

Peace to everyone on here seeking God.

  13. 1 Timothy 2:5 (New International Version)
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

The pray is with the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT in Jesus name.

God is our creator and he wants we adore him with all our heart.

So according to the bible we shouldn´t pray to Virgin Mary, graven image or something like that because they don´t have power.

  14. I pray in Jesus name to God with the power of HOLY SPIRIT and his presence is the best in my life.
    From the inside out!!

  15. XDdMn How many times is Mary mentioned in the bible order than relating to the birth and raising of Jesus? ZERO!

“Other than”? :) lol. The birth and raising of Jesus is a big deal. I guess St. Joseph is way way way down on the list of important Biblical persons, according to the logic you see to be espousing.

There are more references to King David and Abraham but no one prays to them.

Catholics and Orthodox do. We believe they are saints as well.

God had favor by choosing Mary even though He could have chosen anyone else. THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY PLAYER IN GOD’S SALVATION – JESUS CHRIST. EVERYONE ELSE, INCLUDING MARY WAS/IS REPLACEABLE.

We are all God’s children. As the best of fathers, do you really think God sees any of us as “replaceable”? Of course not! He wouldn’t be going through so much trouble to try and save us. Christians collaborate in the work of salvation, not because Christ is lacking and *needs* our help, but because He loves us! It is that love, the same love that makes us irreplaceable in His sight, that same love which eternally saves– that longs–yearns even to have His beloved (us) right there next to Him, sharing in His love and joy.

Rosary??? I don’t remember Jesus or his disciples praying the rosary!! Paul, John or Peter never prayed the rosary (according to scripture anyways).

Question. Should Christians only pray the prayers recorded in Scripture, should they not also pray from their own hearts?

God, thru His Spirit, lives in the heart of true believers by the blood of Jesus… it’s has nothing to do with Mary. Mary was human like you and me and when you die, you can’t do anything for anyone.

Then I wish never to die! I want to live forever, if death signifies the end of my love for others! But, no! Love is stronger than death. And love acts.

But where does the Holy Spirit reside? In creatures. No mere creature has a right to call God Father, but it is the Holy Spirit, who has raised us up, beyond mere creatureliness and sits us with Jesus in the heavenly realms, where we cry out, “Abba! Father!”
    ——————-

Travis Richardson The bible doesn’t say anywhere that we are to pray to Mary, this is an addition to The Holy Bible, which God forbides, no one should add or take away from the Word of God.

Well, then it would seem, allowing for no other argument in defense either way, that this is one of those things which Christians are free to do or not do. If the Bible truly does not say we should pray to Mary, then a Christian should be forced too. Likewise, if the Bible does not say we shouldn’t pray to Mary, then a Christian shouldn’t be forced not too. The not adding to Scripture (as you defined it) cuts both ways. Of course Catholics have a different understanding of what adding to Scripture implies.

Jesus never prayed to Mary and we are to immitate Him, also he says that anyone who does God’s will are His brother, mother, and sister,(Mathew 12:43-50)
And Mary became His mother precisely for that reason, Elizabeth cried out, “Blessed is she who believed that what the Lord said to her will be accomplished!” Jesus was not rebuking his mother, He wasn’t even addressing her, but the person who said, “Your mother and brothers are waiting outside to speak with you”.

Mary was an ordinary human being that succomb to sin just as any other sinner:
What does ordinary mean? No one is ordinary. There’s no such thing, each person is a one of a kind, never to be repeated—individual with their own one of a kind relationship to God. My relationship to Christ cannot be compared to yours, neither can yours be compared to mine and neither of us can be compared to Mary, whether regarding sin, growth in grace, or anything else belonging to our own particular relationship with God. Even if Mary was born with a propensity toward sin (I’m not saying she was, just saying “if”), that still doesn’t mean that she ever actual sinned. If this be the case, she wouldn’t be the first, babies, although they may be born with the “sin nature” cannot actually sin (according to Catholicism), because they have yet to reach the age of reason. BTW, within Catholic tradition, there are many saints who are said to have been born without the propensity to sin, St. Joseph and John the Baptist being two. The most pertinent difference to our discussion, is that Mary’s purification occured at conception, whereas St. Joseph’s and John the Baptist’s occured after conception.

There is only one who will help us to pray, which is in the Holy Spirit, Mary is not part of the Trinity; The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Salvation is in Christ and Christ alone. God Bless you all!

We are not a part of the Trinity according to the Divine nature. However, humanity has been assumed up into the Trinity, by virtue of Christ having taken on flesh.

    Vincent

We should not pray to Mary or anyone else who has died. The Bible tell us that ALL who die in Christ are saints and “normal” people are no acception.
I fail to see where the Catholic Church would disagree with this.

The Scriptures also tell us that ALL has sinned including Mary so why pray to one who has sinned equal to one who hasn’t.
Even is she did sin (which we need to define ‘sin’ here), Mary will never be equal to God. The Catholic Church doesn’t claim that she is.

Mary cannot give the Gift of Salvation but only recieve it just as we do.
She did receive it, but she also gave it. A woman very much gives her child to the world. She conceives and carries it, delivers it, nurses and weans it, educates it, suffers, cries, and rejoices over it, and prepare it for it’s vocation in the world.

The ONLY one who should be prayed to is the one who payed the price for our sin who is the Lord Jesus. We have the same exact rights as Mary to pray to God but remember that there were Prophets before mary who spoke on behalf of God Most High that actually spoke for God.Though they [both mary and the prophets] were great Spiritual Giants we should not pray to any of our brothers or sisters in heaven and Mary or the Apostles are no acception.Hope this helps, God Bless

This isn’t about “rights” No one has to talk to anyone. You don’t have to call your mom on mother’s day or bring her flowers. We talk to our “heavenly” family, because they’re our family and we enjoy their company and even a sister can provide a shoulder to lean on, without taking anything away from God. And while Jesus did “pay the price”, let’s not forget all the sufferings, prayers, even deaths, of so many Christians, who went through what they went through to bring us the good news of salvation so that we would believe and thus be saved.

  16. I’m always amazed at people who sit back and say their not Catholic anymore because the Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints. That is way off base. Mary is the Mother of Christ period. She intercedes for us to her Son. Many people misconstrude the love people have for Mary. It’s basically like the love our children have for us. She is our Mother and who would be better for us to go to when we want something from our Father or Brother? Our Mother because she wants to help us! Also, Mary wasn’t a Virgin from the moment she conceived the Child. Mary herself was conceived without sin. God chose her to be the Mother of his Son before she was born. Mary was born without sin. She also gave birth to Jesus without sin. Stop wasting so much energy on arguing about how important you think Mary is, and put all your energy in Christ Jesus! Nothing could be more full filling.

  17. Many blessings are received by the rosary prayer. WE pray the “Our father” prayer that Jesus taught us to pray. The Hail Mary is written at the bible in Luke 1. Through this prayer we contemplate the whole life of Jesus through this prayer.WE worship Jesus through the rosary, and that’s why it is so powerful. Our Lady teach us to worship Jesus through this prayer and take us to his arms! We don’t worship Mary! that’s the real meaning. Of course that Jesus is the only way to Heaven , but Our Lady is the bridge ! God Bless everyone!!!

  18. God bless you in the name of Jesus!Mary is the mistery of Christ. Mary is not above Jesus, but she is the Mother of Jesus. A sinner could never be the Mother of Jesus, our ONLY Lord and Savior. She was chosen because God found Grace in Her. How would you feel if someone say bad things about your mother? How do you think Jesus feel when people disrespect her? Does the Holly Spirit have blood? Of course not. But Jesus needed blood , and this blood was 100% donated by Mary when He was in he womb. Jesus’s blood heals, Jesus blood saves, Jesus’s blood frees! Jesus’s blood is Mary’s blood. Mary’s blood is Jesus blood.. Jesus’s cells are Mary’s cells. It is impossible to separate them. This is very deep. If you say Mary is a sinner, you say Jesus is a sinner. And this is a sin! Because He himself created Her to be His mom. He wanted it to be like this. Mary is not saint through her own power, but through God’s. She is perfect because God made her perfect, blessed, saint. And that’s what we can see in… Luke 1-40-42 Moved by charity, therefore, Mary goes to the house of her kinswoman. When Mary enters, Elizabeth replies to her greeting and feels the child leap in her womb, and being “filled with the Holy Spirit” she greets Mary with a loud cry: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!” (cf. Lk. 1:40-42. Elizabeth’s exclamation or acclamation was subsequently to become part of the Hail Mary, as a continuation of the angel’s greeting, thus becoming one of the Church’s most frequently used prayers. But still more significant are the words of Elizabeth in the question which follows: “And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Lk. 1:43) Elizabeth bears witness to Mary: she recognizes and proclaims that before her stands the Mother of the Lord, the Mother of the Messiah.

Mary is the mistery of Christ

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” (Eph. 1:3). These words of the Letter to the Ephesians reveal the eternal design of God the Father, his plan of man’s salvation in Christ. It is a universal plan, which concerns all men and women created in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gen. 1:26). Just as all are included in the creative work of God “in the beginning,” so all are eternally included in the divine plan of salvation, which is to be completely revealed, in the “fullness of time,” with the final coming of Christ. In fact, the God who is the “Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”-these are the next words of the same Letter-“chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.

The divine plan of salvation-which was fully revealed to us with the coming of Christ-is eternal. And according to the teaching contained in the Letter just quoted and in other Pauline Letters (cf. Col. 1:12- 14; Rom. 3:24; Gal. 3:13; 2 Cor. 5:18-29), it is also eternally linked to Christ. It includes everyone, but it reserves a special place for the “woman” who is the Mother of him to whom the Father has entrusted the work of salvation.19 As the Second Vatican Council says, “she is already prophetically foreshadowed in that promise made to our first parents after their fall into sin”-according to the Book of Genesis (cf. 3:15). “Likewise she is the Virgin who is to conceive and bear a son, whose name will be called Emmanuel”- according to the words of Isaiah (cf. 7:14).20 In this way the Old Testament prepares that “fullness of time” when God “sent forth his Son, born of woman…so that we might receive adoption as sons.” The coming into the world of the Son of God is an event recorded in the first chapters of the Gospels according to Luke and Matthew.

Mary is definitively introduced into the mystery of Christ through this event: the Annunciation by the angel. This takes place at Nazareth, within the concrete circumstances of the history of Israel, the people which first received God’s promises. The divine messenger says to the Virgin: “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you” (Lk. 1:28). Mary “was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be” (Lk. 1:29): what could those extraordinary words mean, and in particular the expression “full of grace” (kecharitoméne). If we wish to meditate together with Mary on these words, and especially on the expression “full of grace,” we can find a significant echo in the very passage from the Letter to the Ephesians quoted above. And if after the announcement of the heavenly messenger the Virgin of Nazareth is also called “blessed among women” (cf. Lk. 1:42), it is because of that blessing with which “God the Father” has filled us “in the heavenly places, in Christ.” It is a spiritual blessing which is meant for all people and which bears in itself fullness and universality (“every blessing”). It flows from that love which, in the Holy Spirit, unites the consubstantial Son to the Father. At the same time, it is a blessing poured out through Jesus Christ upon human history until the end: upon all people. This blessing, however, refers to Mary in a special and exceptional degree: for she was greeted by Elizabeth as “blessed among women.”

The double greeting is due to the fact that in the soul of this “daughter of Sion” there is manifested, in a sense, all the “glory of grace,” that grace which “the Father…has given us in his beloved Son.” For the messenger greets Mary as “full of grace”; he calls her thus as if it were her real name. He does not call her by her proper earthly name: Miryam (= Mary), but by this new name: “full of grace.” What does this name mean? Why does the archangel address the Virgin of Nazareth in this way?
In the language of the Bible “grace” means a special gift, which according to the New Testament has its source precisely in the Trinitarian life of God himself, God who is love (cf. 1 Jn. 4:8). The fruit of this love is “the election” of which the Letter to the Ephesians speaks. On the part of God, this election is the eternal desire to save man through a sharing in his own life (cf. 2 Pt. 1:4) in Christ: it is salvation through a sharing in supernatural life. The effect of this eternal gift, of this grace of man’s election by God, is like a seed of holiness, or a spring which rises in the soul as a gift from God himself, who through grace gives life and holiness to those who are chosen. In this way there is fulfilled, that is to say there comes about, that “blessing” of man “with every spiritual blessing,” that “being his adopted sons and daughters…in Christ,” in him who is eternally the “beloved Son” of the Father.

When we read that the messenger addresses Mary as “full of grace,” the Gospel context, which mingles revelations and ancient promises, enables us to understand that among all the “spiritual blessings in Christ” this is a special “blessing.” In the mystery of Christ she is present even “before the creation of the world,” as the one whom the Father “has chosen” as Mother of his Son in the Incarnation. And, what is more, together with the Father, the Son has chosen her, entrusting her eternally to the Spirit of holiness. In an entirely special and exceptional way Mary is united to Christ, and similarly she is eternally loved in this “beloved Son,” this Son who is of one being with the Father, in whom is concentrated all the “glory of grace.” At the same time, she is and remains perfectly open to this “gift from above” (cf. Jas. 1:17). As the Council teaches, Mary “stands out among the poor and humble of the Lord, who confidently await and receive salvation from him.”22

Peace be with you ! read part 2!

  19. Part 2 -Mary Mistery of Christ. The election of Mary is election is fundamental for the accomplishment of God’s salvific designs for humanity, and if the eternal choice in Christ and the vocation to the dignity of adopted children is the destiny of everyone, then the election of Mary is wholly exceptional and unique. Hence also the singularity and uniqueness of her place in the mystery of Christ.

The divine messenger says to her: “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High” (Lk. 1:30-32). And when the Virgin, disturbed by that extraordinary greeting, asks: “How shall this be, since I have no husband?” she receives from the angel the confirmation and explanation of the preceding words. Gabriel says to her: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God” (Lk. 1:35).

The Annunciation, therefore, is the revelation of the mystery of the Incarnation at the very beginning of its fulfillment on earth. God’s salvific giving of himself and his life, in some way to all creation but directly to man, reaches one of its high points in the mystery of the Incarnation. This is indeed a high point among all the gifts of grace conferred in the history of man and of the universe: Mary is “full of grace,” because it is precisely in her that the Incarnation of the Word, the hypostatic union of the Son of God with human nature, is accomplished and fulfilled. As the Council says, Mary is “the Mother of the Son of God. As a result she is also the favorite daughter of the Father and the temple of the Holy Spirit. Because of this gift of sublime grace, she far surpasses all other creatures, both in heaven and on earth.”

During the years of Jesus’ hidden life in the house at Nazareth, Mary’s life too is “hid with Christ in God” (cf. Col. 3:3) through faith. For faith is contact with the mystery of God. Every day Mary is in constant contact with the ineffable mystery of God made man, a mystery that surpasses everything revealed in the Old Covenant. From the moment of the Annunciation, the mind of the Virgin-Mother has been initiated into the radical “newness” of God’s self-revelation and has been made aware of the mystery. She is the first of those “little ones” of whom Jesus will say one day: “Father, …you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes” (Mt. 11:25). For “no one knows the Son except the Father” (Mt. 11:27). If this is the case, how can Mary “know the Son”? Of course she does not know him as the Father does; and yet she is the first of those to whom the Father “has chosen to reveal him” (cf. Mt. 11:26-27; 1 Cor. 2:11). If though, from the moment of the Annunciation, the Son-whom only the Father knows completely, as the one who begets him in the eternal “today” (cf. Ps. 2:7) was revealed to Mary, she, his Mother, is in contact with the truth about her Son only in faith and through faith! She is therefore blessed, because “she has believed,” and continues to believe day after day amidst all the trials and the adversities of Jesus’ infancy and then during the years of the hidden life at Nazareth, where he “was obedient to them” (Lk. 2:51). He was obedient both to Mary and also to Joseph, since Joseph took the place of his father in people’s eyes; for this reason, the Son of Mary was regarded by the people as “the carpenter’s son” (Mt. 13:55).

Jesus was obedient to His mother.

From this point of view, particularly eloquent is the passage in the Gospel of John which presents Mary at the wedding feast of Cana. She appears there as the Mother of Jesus at the beginning of his public life: “There was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples” (Jn. 2:1-2). From the text it appears that Jesus and his disciples were invited together with Mary, as if by reason of her presence at the celebration: the Son seems to have been invited because of his mother. We are familiar with the sequence of events which resulted from that invitation, that “beginning of the signs” wrought by Jesus-the water changed into wine-which prompts the Evangelist to say that Jesus “manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him” (Jn. 2:11).Mary is present at Cana in Galilee as the Mother of Jesus, and in a significant way she contributes to that “beginning of the signs” which reveal the messianic power of her Son. We read: “When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come'” (Jn. 2:3-4). In John’s Gospel that “hour” means the time appointed by the Father when the Son accomplishes his task and is to be glorified (cf. Jn. 7:30; 8:20; 12:23, 27; 13:1; 17:1; 19:27). Even though Jesus’ reply to his mother sounds like a refusal (especially if we consider the blunt statement “My hour has not yet come” rather than the question), Mary nevertheless turns to the servants and says to them: “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn. 2:5). Then Jesus orders the servants to fill the stone jars with water, and the water becomes wine, better than the wine which has previously been served to the wedding guests.

What deep understanding existed between Jesus and his mother? How can we probe the mystery of their intimate spiritual union? But the fact speaks for itself. It is certain that that event already quite clearly outlines the new dimension, the new meaning of Mary’s motherhood. Her motherhood has a significance which is not exclusively contained in the words of Jesus and in the various episodes reported by the Synoptics (Lk. 11:27-28 and Lk. 8:19-21; Mt. 12:46-50; Mk. 3:31-35). In these texts Jesus means above all to contrast the motherhood resulting from the fact of birth with what this “motherhood” (and also “brotherhood”) is to be in the dimension of the Kingdom of God, in the salvific radius of God’s fatherhood. In John’s text on the other hand, the description of the Cana event outlines what is actually manifested as a new kind of motherhood according to the spirit and not just according to the flesh, that is to say Mary’s solicitude for human beings, her coming to them in the wide variety of their wants and needs. At Cana in Galilee there is shown only one concrete aspect of human need, apparently a small one of little importance (“They have no wine”). But it has a symbolic value: this coming to the aid of human needs means, at the same time, bringing those needs within the radius of Christ’s messianic mission and salvific power. Thus there is a mediation: Mary places herself between her Son and mankind in the reality of their wants, needs and sufferings. She puts herself “in the middle,” that is to say she acts as a mediatrix not as an outsider, but in her position as mother. She knows that as such she can point out to her Son the needs of mankind, and in fact, she “has the right” to do so. Her mediation is thus in the nature of intercession: Mary “intercedes” for mankind. And that is not all. As a mother she also wishes the messianic power of her Son to be manifested, that salvific power of his which is meant to help man in his misfortunes, to free him from the evil which in various forms and degrees weighs heavily upon his life. Precisely as the Prophet Isaiah had foretold about the Messiah in the famous passage which Jesus quoted before his fellow townsfolk in Nazareth: “To preach good news to the poor…to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind…” (cf. Lk. 4:18).

  20. Part 3- Peace be with you!

Is Jesus thereby distancing himself from his mother according to the flesh? Does he perhaps wish to leave her in the hidden obscurity which she herself has chosen? If this seems to be the case from the tone of those words, one must nevertheless note that the new and different motherhood which Jesus speaks of to his disciples refers precisely to Mary in a very special way. Is not Mary the first of “those who hear the word of God and do it”? And therefore does not the blessing uttered by Jesus in response to the woman in the crowd refer primarily to her? Without any doubt, Mary is worthy of blessing by the very fact that she became the mother of Jesus according to the flesh (“Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked”), but also and especially because already at the Annunciation she accepted the word of God, because she believed it, because she was obedient to God, and because she “kept” the word and “pondered it in her heart” (cf. Lk. 1:38, 45; 2:19, 51) and by means of her whole life accomplished it. Thus we can say that the blessing proclaimed by Jesus is not in opposition, despite appearances, to the blessing uttered by the unknown woman, but rather coincides with that blessing in the person of this Virgin Mother, who called herself only “the handmaid of the Lord” (Lk. 1:38). If it is true that “all generations will call her blessed” (cf. Lk. 1:48), then it can be said that the unnamed woman was the first to confirm unwittingly that prophetic phrase of Mary’s Magnificat and to begin the Magnificat of the ages.

Another essential element of Mary’s maternal task is found in her words to the servants: “Do whatever he tells you.” The Mother of Christ presents herself as the spokeswoman of her Son’s will, pointing out those things which must be done so that the salvific power of the Messiah may be manifested. At Cana, thanks to the intercession of Mary and the obedience of the servants, Jesus begins “his hour.” At Cana Mary appears as believing in Jesus. Her faith evokes his first “sign” and helps to kindle the faith of the disciples.

    God Bless you !

  21. Christian’s worship a ‘resurrected’ God. Mk.12:26-27 says: “…God told him, (Moses) “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is NOT God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.” Christian ‘dead’ become ‘living angels’ in heaven and that is why we seek their intercession. Moses interceded, Mother Mary interceded, Peter interceded, Paul interceded (among many) and God listened and answered their prayers.

We ask one another to pray for us in church, Bible study and in our every day prayers; so why should I not ask those closest to God right now to intercede on my behalf? If I can ask you, I can my mother in heaven.

In Luke 1:48 Mary prophesied, “From now on all ages call me blessed.”
If you never call her, how can you call her ‘blessed?’

In the Revelation to John (Chapter 12), God said a great sign appeared, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head…the dragon (vs. 9 Devil or Satan)waged war against the woman and all of her offspring (us).

No other woman in the Bible has been given by God, the place of honor He has given his mother and ours. None of this is by accident. If you look past our mother, you just may look past her Son.

  22. First of all, never create any image in any likeness, even if you create image of Jesus, it’s a sin too. Let’s say if you was Jesus on Earth, then later people draw your face different from the face you once was, how would you feel?? Second, there’s no scripture in Bible that teach us to pray to Mother Mary. Jesus just teach us pray to the Father in Heaven in His name.

  23. First of all, never create any image in any likeness, even if you create image of Jesus, it’s a sin too.

How is it a sin? Angelic ‘images’ were very much a part of the sacredotal (priestly) era in ancient Israel.

Let’s say if you was Jesus on Earth, then later people draw your face different from the face you once was, how would you feel??

Well, although Christ’s depiction differs in some detail among artists. The image is basically the same across the board. So much so, that one can look at any given depiction and almost always identify it as an image of Christ. This is because some basic rules are always followed, especially in iconography. The images we have of Christ, whatever the medium, even television are based upon the image on the Shroud of Turin, which thousands believe is Christ’s actual image. As an artist, I could never confuse my work for the real person. When I create images of Christ I find myself overcome by a spirit of worship and contemplation toward the true Christ. For example if I am working in clay and am molding His face, I think about what it must have been like to touch Him. I think about the incarnation and so on. As to how Christ feels, I think He accepts our poor attempts at capturing His image like any parent who proudly displays pictures their children drew of them with purple hair and orange skin. Christ loves us more than any mother with a frig and magnets. I believe my artistic ability is a gift from God and if I can use that gift to think more often and deeply of Him, then may He be praised. That’s why He’s given us such gifts in the first place that we may glorify Him.

Second, there’s no scripture in Bible that teach us to pray to Mother Mary. Jesus just teach us pray to the Father in Heaven in His name.

Just to clarify: Are you saying that we shouldn’t pray to Jesus?

  24. THIS ALL I CAN SAY, EVERYTHNG ABOUT THE ROLE THAT THE BLESSED VIRGIN HAS TO FULFILL IS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE. ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS TO COMPREHEND AND MEDITATE ON THAT. SO MUCH HAVE BEEN SAID ABOUT HER BY THEOLOGIANS AND DOCTORS OF THE CHURCH. AREN’T WE CONVINCED.

IF WE ARE A CATHOLIC, WE SHOULD NOT LET CONFUSION GET IN OUR SYSTEM. IF ON THE OTHER HAND, WE ARE NOT CATHOLIC THEN I SUGGEST THAT WE HAVE TO CONSIDER THE BIBLICAL PASSAGES THAT PERTAINS TO THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD AND GIVE TIME TO PONDER WHAT IT REALLY MEANT.IN THO OLD TESTAMENT,GOD IS SENDING HIS PROPHETS TO WARN AND REMIND HIS PEOPLE OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN BEFORE THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH NOW THAT WE ARE NEARING THE END TIMES, HE IS SENDING THE BLESSED VIRGIN THRU HER NUMEROUS APPROVED APPARITIONS IN THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD TO WARN US AGAIN AND REMIND US OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE NEAR FUTURE BEFORE CHRIST’S SECOND COMING.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT,IN THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA,MARY ACTED AS THE MEDIATRIX OFF ALL GRACE FOR THE NEWLY WED COUPLE. YES,THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN. BUT LET US NOT FORGET THAT IN THAT INCIDENT( THE WEDDING FEAST AT CANA) WE ARE TAUGHT AND REMINDED OF THE ROLE AND THE POWER OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN TO INTERCEDE ON OUR BEHALF. THAT IS BIBLICAL ONLY, A FOOL WILL TELL THAT IT IS NOT TRUE.

MY DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS LET US PRAY TO MAMA MARY,AFTER ALL JESUS GAVE HER TO US ON CALVARY. SHE ENTRUSTED US TO HER MATERNAL CARE. SHE IS THE MOST FAVORED DAUGHTER OF GOD,THE SPOUSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,AND THE BIOLOGICAL MOTHER OF THE MESSIAH. WE DON’T WORSHIP HER, WE GIVE DUE RESPECT FOR SHE AFTER JESUS CHRIST,SHE’S THE ONLY HUMAN BEING THAT WAS PRESERVED FROM EVERY SIN EVEN THROUGH ORIGINAL SIN THAT WE INHERITED FROM OUR FIRST PARENTS.

    GOD BLESS US. AVE MARIA!

  25. I cannot express how I felt when I was all broken and the healing I received when I was praying to Lord Jesus Christ at her feet..When I write this I’m in tears. I am going through a rough time and only with the strength I receive by asking my Mother Mary’s help I’m able to be strong..And I’m not losing hope. I will never forget her love for me.

    Hail Mary, full of grace.
    Our Lord is with you.
    Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb,
    Jesus.
    Holy Mary, Mother of God,
    pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Thank you Jesus, for your wonderful gift..

  26. I hope I do not offend because there is no malice in what I am about to say, and I do not stand in judgement of anyone. I was raised Catholic, drifted, and then was reborn as a Christian. We attend a Catholic church because I have an affection for Catholocism, and I think it is a beautiful way to worship. However, I can’t come to terms with a few things, and one is praying to Mary. I have not seen anything in the bible indicating we should pray to Mary, but at least a dozen or so saying we should pray only to the father in the name of his son Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father obviously thought very highly of her, but why pray to her when Our Father is always listening.

  27. Dear friends,

Mary is really a blessed one that everyone should accept, because no one on these planet earth had that privilege. But on this basis we should not think through her we should pray or ask for mercy and she is interceding for us. It’s totally a wrong one…

If she is also a way means Jesus would have told, ask my mother and she will tell to me, and i will do it for you, but he didn’t. She is just a human being used by the trinity god to full fill the prophecy in genesis 3:15. God would have come to earth like Melchisedec who has no father, no mother, no descendant, no beginning, no end (indeed it’s our lord), but to fulfill the prophecy lord used her, that’s all.

Worshipping Mary is a pure paganism, during the reign of Constantine in Rome he did many favour to the christians so many people converted to christianity, they converted simply to get the benefits, without knowing the truth, once they were idolators worshipping male and female gods, so after conversion they wanted female gods, festivals, special days, rituals so they side by side inserted these kind of teachings.. After years people who are in these heritage and tradition reluctant to accept the fact and still holding mother mary as a holy one., except god there is no one is holy..

Yes u can get healing, peace, richness etc etc by praying to her, even Hindus, Muslims and other religious people getting all these by worshipping idols, visiting temples, going to holy places getting all these, lot of proof is there.. Egyptian magician also created snakes before Moses know. It’s all pure deception by the devil. He is totally deceiving us.Don’t be deceived.
There is only one way, one mediator, Jesus Christ, he is the way, truth and life. He is the almighty god in flesh. There is no mediator other than him. Mary is just human being just like you and me, lived two thousand years ago in a first Christian family, that’s all. Nowhere in the old testament, New Testament it is written we can also pray to Mary. If you believe in Jesus just ask him for the guidance, he will guide you, he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Vast majority of people will definitely follow this tradition which is again going to fulfill the prophecy in revelation. Plz come out of tradition, heritage, sentiments. God will help you.

  28. Hmm.. it’s clearly mentioned that, We are asking for Mother Mary’s intercession..She is purest. If anybody offends her and call her mere human, it is like offending Jesus. Healings are done by God when you pray with a humble heart and mind..Asking Mother’s help will reach you to Lord. It’s a prayer to God. It’s not like worshiping Mother or idols.
In society don’t you feel good when someone wishes good to you..Priests pray for people..Our family prays for us..We pray for world peace..We pray for ourselves..Don’t all these have any meaning? Don’t we believe in that? Then how much powerful wouldn’t it be if our Mother from Heaven prays for us.

  29. How do you feel when you are praying to Virgin Mary?

And How do you feel when you are praying to Jesus Christ?

I respect all the points of view, many times the people has faith in her because their family, friends, traditions and so on taught them that. But I recommend you: Experiment for yourself. As the bible says: Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8-32

  30. Ask Mary to pray for us? it’s just tradition of men. Never mentioned in bible. Jesus remind us not to transgress God’s law because of men’s tradition. Catholic seems want their follower to focus on Mary more on God. Y? Everytime got problem, rosery prayer will surely come to their mind at 1st place, not bible. More info here:

  31. All statements and opinion in defense of Mary is a repeated suggestions and fruit of imagination-from Vatican(of olds) to a local “Truth Searching” Kid in Las Vegas…. they will never hold water in COURT; basically if the basis of truth will be the Canonized Bible(Oracles of God) which was given to the Isralites(Chosen People of God) and not the Italians who adulterated it.
IT HAS TO BE AGREED that the Bible should be the basis of truth – surely and a pity to say that the ROMAN Catholics don’t believe the Bible, basically because they never read it and totally depend on what a Catholic Priest says… poorly to say, it will be very hard to find a Catholic Priest who really knows the Bible and understand the word Canonized because they think that THEY REPRESENT GOD THE FATHER on earth.(Priest should attend bible studies with evangelicals)
The Catholic Bible which content only 9 Commandments instead of 10 proves that they could edit God’s Word which cursed in the Book of Revelations and Deuteronomy. These Roman Catholic deed of doing so also proves that they never read the Bible because if they did, they will not edit God’s Word.
All pro-Mary as Mother of God should understand God’s Law of nature that Mary should have a grandmother and should start proving that Jesus has a grandfather and and grandmother, who by a Roman Catholic MENTALITY tells us that there is such a thing as a “God the Granny” – parents of the Virgin Mary… by searching, it is revealed that Jesus had a great grandmother – and is a PROSTITUTE named RAHAB of Jericho,,,A PROSTITUTE GREAT GRANDMOTHER OF GOD? YES! Truly the Virgin Mary was not a sinner by committing sin but was BORN A SINNER Luke 1:46-47 “And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”. As a sinner, she, too, needed a savior and was privilege to give birth to Jesus – “Full of Grace” – the meaning of GRACE is “Undeserving”
Christians pray to the Holy Trinity,in the Name of Jesus but not the Mother of God the Son (Jesus) who is the ALPHA AND THE OMEGA who created mankind particularly Mary the Mother of Jesus and Jesus half brothers and sister fathered by Joseph husband of Mary brothers and sisters. Ever wonder if you call your mother a VIRGIN.. why don’t you ask her and see how she would react…
I was just wondering also why the half brothers Jesus (James writer of the book of James and Jude writer of the book of Jude in the New Testament) and a sister believed to be named Martha are not God if Mary is the Mother of God…..

  32. for those who don’t believe in mother marry.. when u don’t believe in mother how come u can believe in his son who was born through her chosen by the father(u all r neglecting the one which the father all mighty chose)..

  33. Allan,

Everytime got problem, rosery prayer will surely come to their mind at 1st place, not bible.

The rosary is to the Gospels, what the Liturgy of the Hours (another common prayer practice) is to the Psalms. The rosary is the life of Christ prayed. In fact, the same pontiff (JPII) who suggested additional events to contemplate while praying the rosary, ie the Wedding at Cana, Jesus’ preaching, the Transfiguration, the Lord’s Supper ect. said “Whoever remains ignorant of Scripture, remains ignorant of Christ.”
    ——-
    Lambert,
    All statements and opinion in defense of Mary is a repeated suggestions and fruit of imagination-from Vatican(of olds) to a local “Truth Searching” Kid in Las Vegas…. they will never hold water in COURT;

Forgive me…but I have no idea what you just said.

basically if the basis of truth will be the Canonized Bible(Oracles of God) which was given to the Isralites(Chosen People of God) and not the Italians who adulterated it.

The Scriptures were given to the Messianic People of both the Old and New Testaments, which includes Christians, even those residing in Italy. A letter was even addressed to them by Paul, which is a part of the canon of Holy Writ that has come down to us, bearing their name, ‘Romans’.

IT HAS TO BE AGREED that the Bible should be the basis of truth – surely

I don’t agree. Christ is the basis of truth. He is the touch stone and He formed a community around Him, commanding them to baptize, forgive in His name, and to teach everything He had commanded them, promising to be with them to the end of the age. Since they didn’t have the internet or telephones, they wrote letters to one another to do just that. So while the importance of Scripture, these letters ect. are of immeasurable importance for faith and doctrine, they are not, either in theory or practice the ‘basis’ of truth, but are themselves a part of a living tradition, tracing itself back to Him who is the ‘basis’ of everything.

and a pity to say that the ROMAN Catholics don’t believe the Bible,

If Roman Catholics don’t believe the Bible, it would never have been received into the Church, and continually prayed and preached from.

basically because they never read it

    I do and I’m Catholic.

and totally depend on what a Catholic Priest says…

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘totally depend’. We’re taught to respect those in authority over us.

poorly to say, it will be very hard to find a Catholic Priest who really knows the Bible and understand the word Canonized because they think that THEY REPRESENT GOD THE FATHER on earth.(Priest should attend bible studies with evangelicals)

My priest knows his Bible very well. Also, it would be more accurate to say, “…They represent Christ…”, not that Christ is missing, but in the sense of stewards or abassadors (as Paul would say).

The Catholic Bible which content only 9 Commandments instead of 10 proves that they could edit God’s Word which cursed in the Book of Revelations and Deuteronomy.

Where did you ever get the idea that the Catholic Bible has only nine Commandments?

These Roman Catholic deed of doing so also proves that they never read the Bible because if they did, they will not edit God’s Word.

Well, let it be known then, that we do have all ten Commandments.

All pro-Mary as Mother of God should understand God’s Law of nature that Mary should have a grandmother

    Yes. Mary has a grandmother

and should start proving that Jesus has a grandfather and and grandmother,

Yes. Jesus has a grandfather and a grandmother

who by a Roman Catholic MENTALITY tells us that there is such a thing as a “God the Granny” – parents of the Virgin Mary…

I don’t understand your logic. Mary is the Mother of God, not ‘God the Mother’. Mary’s parents are the grandparents of God enfleshed.

by searching, it is revealed that Jesus had a great grandmother – and is a PROSTITUTE named RAHAB of Jericho,,,A PROSTITUTE GREAT GRANDMOTHER OF GOD? YES!

Rahab repented and even if she didn’t, what’s so wrong with her being the great-grandmother of God enfleshed?

Truly the Virgin Mary was not a sinner by committing sin but was BORN A SINNER Luke 1:46-47 “And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”. As a sinner, she, too, needed a savior and was privilege to give birth to Jesus

She was saved. She was saved from sinning. Something which I believe we all experience to some degree, we just aren’t usually unaware of it. Who knows how many sins, spiritual dangers, pitfalls, we’d all fall into during our life, save for God’s providence.

    – “Full of Grace” – the meaning of GRACE is “Undeserving”

Yep. Mary was undeserving. On that we agree.

Christians pray to the Holy Trinity,in the Name of Jesus but not the Mother of God the Son (Jesus) who is the ALPHA AND THE OMEGA who created mankind particularly Mary the Mother of Jesus

Yes. We should all remember to pray in Jesus’ name.

and Jesus half brothers and sister fathered by Joseph husband of Mary brothers and sisters.

Where does it say that in Scripture?

Ever wonder if you call your mother a VIRGIN.. why don’t you ask her and see how she would react…

But Jesus’ mother was a virgin at least for the first month or so after He was born. I don’t understand what you’re saying here.

I was just wondering also why the half brothers Jesus (James writer of the book of James and Jude writer of the book of Jude in the New Testament) and a sister believed to be named Martha are not God if Mary is the Mother of God….

Even if Mary had other children, she’d still be the Mother of God, because no matter if her brood were 20 children large, one of them, Jesus, is God. Mary is the Mother of God, not the ‘Mother of (G)ods’.

    Cheryl

  34. If you starts things wrong, it will always end up wrong!
The Roman Catholic Church has 73 books. The Cannonized Bible has 66 books. This is a deliberate disobedience commanded by in Deuteronomy. 4:2 “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take anything from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”
Proverbs 30:5-6 “Every word of God is pure; he is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.”
Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”
The 2nd Command of the 10 Commandement is as follows Exodus 20:4-6 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my Commandments.

The Roman Catholic Church has 73 books. The Cannonized Bible has 66 books.

The only group of churches to currently use these 66 books in question, as ‘official’ canon, is protestantism. Protestantism itself is a western phenomena, having orginated as independent churches out of the German, English, Swiss, French and later American nations. Rome does tend to get blamed for everything. Nevertheless, not only Rome, but the churches of Jerusalem and Eastward, ie the E. Orthodox, the Copts, the Assyrians, ect. consider not only the 66 aforementioned books canon, but additional books as well. The source of these additional books, is pre-Christ Jewish in origin, dubbed the Septuagint. It was after Christ’s ascension, in 90 AD, that a Jewish council in Jamnia decided that the canon ought to contain only 66 books. Not only did this take place after Christ’s ascension, when the Church was well underway, but after the Church herself had already been using variations of the Septuagint in it’s liturgical celebrations. In short, the question of what books should and should not be regarded as Scripture has nothing to do with what was originally Jewish. Both the Catholic/Eastern and the Protestant canons originated out of Judaism. The real question is, where does the authority to decide what’s canon reside? Does it reside with the early Messianic community (composed of both Jews and ingrafted Gentiles) or with a Jewish council that did not profess Christ?

The 2nd Command of the 10 Commandement is as follows Exodus 20:4-6 You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my Commandments.
This was deleted in the Catholic Bible.

As far as numbering goes, the Catholic Church follows ten commandments (see below). Regarding Ex.20:4-5 specifically, this is from the Douay Reims version:

1] And the Lord spoke all these words: [2] I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. [3] Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. [4] Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. [5] Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: [6] And shewing mercy unto thousands to them that love me, and keep my commandments.

(This is nearly identical to what you’ve written above)

    From The Catholic Catechism:
    ARTICLE 1
    THE FIRST COMMANDMENT
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.
It is written: “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.”

    ARTICLE 2
THE SECOND COMMANDMENT You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

    ARTICLE 3
    THE THIRD COMMANDMENT
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work.

    ARTICLE 4
    THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

    ARTICLE 5
    THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT
    You shall not kill.

    ARTICLE 6
    THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT
    You shall not commit adultery.

    ARTICLE 7
    THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT
    You shall not steal.

    ARTICLE 8
    THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

    ARTICLE 9
    THE NINTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.

    ARTICLE 10
    THE TENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet . . . anything that is your neighbor’s. . . . You shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor’s.

The Oracles of God (The Holy Scriptures) given to the Chosen People should be appreciated through a Jewish mind and not from the adulterated Vatican thinking. My JESUS IS A JEW!

He is also a son of Adam (and so encompasses all people). Israel is indeed the chosen people, but this has less to do with ethnicity, what language they speak, or what nation that currently reside in. To be an Israelite is to be fully integrated into the Covenant. In the Old Testament, this primarily meant circumcision for males, and conformity to Mosaic Law.

He does not speak Latin as “dogma” by Vatican that the official language in Heaven is Latin! Latin-in the NEW JERUSALEM? Where in the book of Revelations that cursed the Catholic church for editing God’s Word?

I don’t know what this means.

Regarding Mary whom all we love but not worship should not be placed in a pedestal as mother of god.

Pedestal or no, she did give birth to the One who is truly God-Jesus Christ.

She is a decendant of a sinful generation, not to mention that she came from Rahab a forgiven prostitute stained by fleshly sin transmitted to Mary.

I’m not sure what’s being said. Are you saying Rahab transmitted adulterous flesh to Mary?

Mary, a born sinner, claimed to be an Immaculate Concepcion?

How do you understand ‘sin’ and ‘sinner’?

What is the Pope making us to believe that a Sinner Mother giving Birth to a Sinless Jesus? A banana tree bearing apples?

No. He’s not making you believe this at all. Rather, he teaches the very opposite.

Mary is the mother of Jesus. JESUS was worshiped by the Wiseman… they were wise by worshiping the young Jesus as they know the scriptures which the Pope past and present does not know – the wiseman did not worship Mary that is why they were branded WISEMAN!

Catholics do not worship Mary. To worship anyone besides God is heretical. A heresy which will get you excommunicated in the Catholic Church.

Mary mother of Jesus is what the Bible teaches us – not mother of god.. that is blasphemy.

But you just said that the wisemen were wise precisely because they worshipped the young Jesus, but no one ought to be worshipped except God. So if Mary is the mother of Jesus and only God ought to be worshipped and Jesus was worshipped, then Jesus is God. Furthermore, if there is only one Jesus, and not two Jesus’, ie one Jesus being Mary’s son and the other Jesus being God, then Mary is the Mother of God, enfleshed and called Jesus.

It is an insult to the Holy Spirit that now has a mother being the third person of the Holy Trinity… it appears that in heaven, the Holy Trinity is now the Holy Quartet placing Mary as the fourth God(ess). The Catholics admittingly claims that God has a mother, therefore God has grandparents?

No mere creature can co-exist from all eternity along with God. Mary was created in time and space like any human person. Do you believe the Catholic Church teaches that Mary (as a goddess) beget the Son (God) from all eternity-akin to the Father’s begetting of the Son?

If not, then it seems to me, you want to have it both ways. That Jesus is God and deserving of worship. But then, He isn’t God while being the son of Mary. So, He’s God in relation to the wisemen, but not God in relation to Mary.

Seemingly, the Catholics believes that God has a Beginning? Is this what the Pope preached to you? And Jesus who has no beginning and end is a lie?

Where are you getting this stuff? Truly…I’m curious. The Catholic Church doesn’t teach this.

Stop the pagan ways of praying the rosary(search history where beads and repeating prayers originated) making us believe that god needs a hearing aide.

It originated in the East. God doesn’t need a hearing aid, but we often times need prayer aids. The rosary is not meant to be used as a score card for keeping score of how many prayers we’ve said. We can’t earn points with God and one prayer said with the right intentions is better than a thousand ‘mouthed’ off repeatedly and never thought about. The rosary is first of all, a physical means by which we are better able to focus on our prayers and not become destracted (for similiar reasons, we often times teach our children to fold their hands and close their eyes). Holding anything of religious significants to you (ie a ‘worry’ cross which is popular among evangelicals)has a similar effect. But there is a second reason why Catholics make use of a rosary (albeit related to the first). Because each set of ten is dedicated to a bible lesson or something pertaining to our Faith, the rosary gives us time to contemplate on each lesson ect. This is especially good for those who tend to rush through their prayers or who struggle to take the time to contemplate God’s works. Thirdly, because the beads are strung out the way they are (they make a long loop from a cross back toward the cross), they (the beads) form a little ‘road’ if you will, the beads are like pebbles or stepping stones along a path. So as we pray, thinking about God, we progress along His ‘life’ as we contemplate His birth, life, death ect. until by the end we’ve essentially journeyed through the major events of the New Testament.

The ‘Hail Mary’, derived primarily from Scripture itself, is included because that short phrase comprised of Gabriel and Elizabeth’s words to her, encompasses in it’s own way the entirety of God’s salvic plan. The promise of a Messiah (born of a woman) and the fulfillment of that promise.

Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the (God)Father but by Me(Jesus)”.
Repent and confess Jesus and not Mary whom you should worship.

I have many sins to confess. But I don’t think worshipping Mary is among them. No one can equal the love and devotion I have for Christ.

My prayers go out to you as well.

    In His name.

    Cheryl

  36. Dear friends

I don’t understant people who don’t believe in mary and they believe and honour his son(Jesus)you know i call that insubordination to you,you must be ashamed for yourself you dont know that you brought bad luck in your life???.She asked us to pray the rosary for the world peace. She said it has never heard in the beginning that who run after her asking help in her prayer was ignired. So friends please dont say whatever you want to say about our mother youare hurting our feeling deeply.May the lord of mercy and his mom virgin mary blessed you and wash away your sins.In his name Mmeza

  37. Dear Mmeza,
    1. You do have the right to believe in whatever you believe, but does that make the belief in itself right? Not necessarily. This forum is to disucss and the basis of discussing Gods revealed word is the word itself. So unless we can substantiate what Gods word says in regard to a perticular doctrine, we can shout at the top of ue voice. It means nothing. 1 Peter 3:15 the apostle Peter reminds us, “At all time be ready to give a defence for all that u believe, with meekness and humility” . What you have said cannot be substantiated with the Bible. Read it in honesty and let God reveled in his son, jesus speak to you. Love and regards Harry

  38. Just GOD is Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, then if everyone around the world is praying to Virgin Mary, Is she hearing everyone?
    *According to the bible not.

  39. Flor,

Just GOD is Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, then if everyone around the world is praying to Virgin Mary, Is she hearing everyone?
    *According to the bible not.

The Bible teaches that God is Omni-. But, ‘Is she hearing everyone’ is a jump in logic.

    Three things to consider.

Firstly, Jesus is God, but He is also completely man. Is He, as a man, sitting at God’s right hand aware of all the prayers which go up to Him?

Secondly, in Scripture we are told of a created being, who was and still is, the ‘guardian’ of God’s people-St. Michael, the archangel…but is he omni. anything? Most likely not and yet God has given him the knowledge he needs to continue in his ongoing mission.

Thirdly, there are more people in heaven than are currently on this earth. When we get to heaven, will we know everyone, or will we continually find ourselves in the presence of strangers?

Or to put it another way, if ‘now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known’ -is in some sense already a reality for those in heaven, and we went to heaven and shared in this heavenly knowledge, would that make us omni. in any way? No (at least it doesn’t follow logically that we will).

Even if we apply 1 Cor 13:12 soley to the future physical resurrection, would we then as resurrected persons be Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent? Probably not.

I’m not looking to defend the belief that those in heaven have knowledge of our particulars (and it doesn’t matter to me how that knowledge comes, whether through hearing or some other means), all I’m trying to say is that even if those in heaven have that sort of knowledge…that’s still a long way off from being Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnipresent.

  40. Cheryl I read your comment , that is ok. Everyone has free will and I only obey this:

-Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me . Jonh 14-6

-“As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.” Psalm 55:16

    God bless you!

  41. If anyone read the Bible one will find numerous accounts of intercessory prayer. Moses spoke up for the golden calf worshiping Israelites and God responded by holding back His anger. Moses interceded on their behalf.

As with Mother Mary or any saint in heaven, they definitely have the Lord’s ear–they can indeed intercede on our behalf. If you believe that being ‘only human’ means you cannot go to the Father on someone else’s behalf, then you are missing a lot of graces. On that note, with that thinking you cannot ask your pastor, your spouse or anyone on earth to pray for you since they are only human.

Also, as Christians we should believe that Jesus conquered death and death on this earth only means life in the next. With that said, not one saint and angel in heaven is dead, they are as alive as you and me or maybe even, more so because they are in the presence of God almighty.

I don’t know about you, but I would rather put in my request for intercessory prayer with one at the altar in heaven than in one here on earth struggling with sin as much as I am.

  42. Very very true Vanessa.

Many still ask, Why pray to Mary? She is only the human mother of Jesus, who died as a normal woman on Earth.

We ask Mary to pray to Jesus for us. She is just interceding, kind of in the way a pastor might pray for us. In the Rosary we ask Mary to “Pray for us sinners.” And we know she is quite good at that.

Mary is definitely not above Jesus.

Its evident from her own words. In the Bible, Mary clearly spells out her role in eternity:-

    My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
    For He has regarded the lowly state of his maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
    (Lk 1:46-49)

The Bible says Jesus is magnified by Mary’s soul. A soul is not limited by life on earth. Mary reinforces her eternal ministry by saying “all generations will call me blessed.” If the Bible intended Mary’s ministry to end with the birth of Jesus, or at Jesus’ death, or even at Mary’s death, I don’t think it would use that language.

A magnifying glass increases the object it is focused on, so being in relation to Mary’s eternal soul does not draw focus away from Jesus, it does the opposite. It magnifies him. This is the Bible’s word to the people of God.

  43. Flor,

The passage you cited from John should not be understood as excluding everyone but Christ. What about the Holy Spirit?

  44. We know this:
    THE HOLY TRINITY.
God is the Creator, the generous Creator who gives us life and gave us the freedom to enjoy it as we wish. God is love.

Christ is the forgiveness that unites the divine virtues through prayer and Christian life.

Holy Spirit, who is alive and eternal union between Christ and us. The Spirit is alive and divine assurance of the presence of God in the Church and the People of God: ourselves.

    More here:
    Statement of Faith

  45. To Jesus, through Mary.

That does not mean, “To Mary, through Jesus.” Nor does it mean, “To Jesus and to Mary.” This saying affirms that Catholics do not pray “to” Mary as an equal to God. We pray “through” Mary as an intercessor who prays to God on behalf of mankind.

Catholics do not perceive Mary as a god.

    (a) They honour the Blessed Virgin Mary.
    (b) They view Mary as the holiest of all the Saints.
    (c) The accept the fact that Mary is the most successful Saint at obtaining Divine favours through her intercession.

  46. I think that Miriam – for that was her name, although I cannot write in her language; Aramaic – would be most confused by all the pleadings, exhortations and expectations that are called up in prayer in her name. She had endured the murder and humiliation of her son and now people are calling on her to heal, restore and safeguard their own lives. Leave her alone she has been hurt enough. Sort out your own lives. If you want an example of sacrifice look to the thousands of millions of animals who are slaughtered every year to feed us ( where grains, fruits and many other crops would very easily do just as well. Joshua ( sorry still don’t know his Aramaic spelling ) I would guess might be of the same opinion. I am not against religion if people genuinely get comfort and security from it, but stop using Mary, Jesus et al as an excuse for not doing right in your own lives. I do not mean to offend anyone here, and if you are suffering my heart goes out to you and I thihk that your God will certaintly look after you when all is said and done, and I most certainly wish you well in body and spirit.
  47. hi!

Virgin Mary doesn’t have the right to pray for our sins. We must pray/talk directly to Jesus as our Savior in our lives. Because it is our personal relationship and love we have from Jesus that counts our prayer unto Him.

Virgin Mary has nothing to do with it. we commit sins and not Virgin Mary-because she’s still human (sinner) unlike Jesus as God., so we don’t have to pray through Virgin Mary to let Jesus know our sins and needs.

You misinterpret the bible. it doesn’t mean that Virgin Mary was the bridge in letting Jesus know and-to make water into wine, then she’s the way to let our sins confess unto Jesus.

It’s just that time, Virgin Mary only informed Jesus on what was happening (problem) in the wedding- and nothing else. I think there’s no big deal about it.

Aside from that, there is no such verse in the bible that says we have to pray through Virgin Mary to Jesus.

    (Luke 1: 47-55)

    Virgin Mary said:
    With all my heart
    I praise the Lord,

This only means that Virgin Mary acknowledge that God deserves her praises from her whole being.

47and I am glad because of God my Savior.
48He cares for me, his humble servant.
From now on, all people will say
    God has blessed me.

In this verses, it shows that Virgin Mary again acknowledge God as her Savior and cares for her as a humble servant of God.

“All people will say God has blessed me” – this means that Virgin Mary will be known as blessed among all women in this world because God has chosen her to be an INSTRUMENT to bear God’s Son-Jesus in this world.

In the following verses, these are the praises that Virgin Mary proclaims unto our God and nothing more- that would tell we need to send our prayer through her to Jesus.

    49God All-Powerful has done
    great things for me,
    and his name is holy.
50He always shows mercy to everyone who worships him.
51The Lord has used his powerful arm to scatter those who are proud.
52He drags strong rulers from their thrones and puts humble people in places of power.
53God gives the hungry good things to eat, and sends the rich away
    with nothing.
54He helps his servant Israel and is always merciful to his people.
55The Lord made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his family forever!

aGAIN, Virgin Mary was just an INSTURMENT USED by God to fulfill the prophecy. To bear His son Jesus in this world to bring salvation to those – who believe and put their faith in Him. (John 1:12)

As the scripture says, only Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to Father except through Him (Jesus).John 14:6.

For those who prayed through Virgin Mary to Jesus, please let your mind and heart be enlightened by the Scripture.

Have time to read the spiritual essential equipment (The Bible) that God has given us.

That is, the bible is living thing, serving as a tool for the Holy Spirit and is very useful for our spiritual maturity.

    2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

    • Teaches us: it gives us correct information
    • Rebukes us: repairs our wrong ways of thinking
    • Corrects us: Corrects our character flaws
    • Trains us in righteousness: Trains us to be ready to make the right choices & decisions

    Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

12For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

    GOD BLESS EVERYONE!
