Poem : Dust If You Must

Dust If You Must

Dust if you must.
But wouldn’t it be better,
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed?
Ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must.
But there is not much time
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb!
Music to hear, and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must.
But the world’s out there
With the sun in your eyes,
the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come round again.

Dust if you must.
But bear in mind,
Old age will come and it’s not kind.
And when you go, and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

  1. Dust if you Must was not written by Georgy, it was written by my mother in law mrs Rose Milligan from Lancaster in Lancashire, England The poem was first published in the September 15th – 21st edition of The Lady (magazine) in 1998.
Please could you correct your article.

  2. Hi Stephen,

You are mistaken. The ‘By Georgy’ just says that the poem was published in this website by me. Infact if you take any article in this website , it wil have that small by georgy words. If you want to see the author of the poem, look after the content. There we give “written by” and the authors name for all the known authors.

We have updated the author field as you can see above now. Thanks a lot for letting us know the authors name of the poem ‘Dust If You Must’. You have a great mother in law.

    God Bless You All
    Georgy

  3. Is there any way of getting in touch with either Stephen lally or the author of this poem herself? I realise this post is very old but I’d like to find out more about the author.
