And God said, NO – God Hath Not Promised

And God said, NO!

I asked God to take away my pride, and God said, “NO!”
He said it was not for Him to take away, but for me to give up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole, and God said, “NO!”
He said, “Her spirit is whole, and her body is only temporary!”

I asked God to grant me patience, and God said, “NO!”
He said, that patience is a by-product of tribulation; it isn’t granted, it’s earned!

I asked God to give me happiness, and God said, “NO!”
He said, He gives blessings; happiness is up to me!

I asked God to spare me pain, and God said, NO!
He said, “Suffering draws you apart from wordly cares, and brings you closer to Me!”

I asked God to make my spirit grow, and God said, “NO!”
He said, I must grow on my own, but He will prune me to make me more fruitful!

I asked God if He loved me, and God said, “YES!!!”
He gave His only Son who died for me, and I will be in Heaven someday because I believe!

I asked God to help me love others as much as He love me,
And God said, “Ahhhh, finally ~ you have the idea!”

“God Hath not Promised”

God hath not promised skies always blue
Flower strewn pathways all our lives through
God hath not promised sun without rain
Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain.

But God hath promised, strength for today
Rest for the labor, light for the way
Grace for the trials, help from above
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

God hath not promised we shall not know
toil and temptation, trouble and woe
He hath not told us we shall not bear
many a burden, many a care

God hat not promised smooth roads and wide
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide
Never a mountain, rocky and steep
Never a river turbid and deep.

  1. Both poems brought tears to my eyes. Oh the love of God for us! What a beautiful loving and caring Father we serve. I love reading these poems. May I ask where you find them? I would love to place them on my blog. How beautiful they are to read. How they make you think about your life and how God truly moves and works within your life. God bless you and keep the poems coming!
