The New Covenant of Life

The New Covenant of Life

It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life. – (2 Corinthians 3:5-6)

Unfortunately, most folks who claim to follow Jesus miss the incredibly radical claims of the apostle Paul. We are not under law. It’s not that the righteous demands of law are bad, but they have no power to change us — not down inside where the problems in our behaviors really reside. Instead, when we surrender our lives to Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside us.

With the gift of the Spirit’s presence come both the power and the urge to be more like God — holy and righteous, gracious and compassionate. Written laws ultimately convict us of our failures, but this “law,” the principle of living by the Holy Spirit of God within us, is life-inspiring and enabling. Rather than a law demanding us to be holy, we have the presence of the Holy One inside us urging, leading, empowering, convicting, and transforming us to be like Jesus.

Prayer : Holy God, I appreciate the Ten Commandments and the rules, regulations, and laws you gave your people through Moses. I hear your call to me to be holy — to be righteous and compassionate like you are. Yet I know, dear Father, that without the empowering presence of your Holy Spirit and the gift of your grace in Jesus, I would never measure up. I ask that you give me life, hope, holiness, joy, peace, passion, endurance, and grace as I seek to yield to the Spirit’s influence in my life. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

His Breath Is My Life

Breath of the Almighty
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. – (Job 33:4)

While these words are spoken by one of Job’s critics, they echo the truth of Scripture. We are made by God: intentionally, purposely, and personally (Ps. 139:13-16). God puts his breath in us and we live. God’s creativity is the handiwork of the Spirit – the same Spirit who hovered over creation waiting for God’s creative word to begin creation (Gen. 1:2).

This understanding should humble us, recognizing that God’s breath is what sustains us. This understanding should empower us — we are the personal and intentional handiwork of God’s Spirit. This understanding should awaken us to our purpose in the world. And as believers, those in whom the Spirit lives and those who are gifted by the Spirit, we understand all these things more fully (Eph. 2:10; 1 Cor. 12:7). Let’s use who we are to honor God and bless others!

Prayer : O Father, I confess that at times I lose sight of my heavenly calling. I forget that you have made me and positioned me to make a difference in the circle of people in which you placed me. Make me more aware of your divine intention in making, your Spirit’s power that is shaping me and transforming me, and the strategic place you have put me to bless others with your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Play the song “All Bow Down” by Chris Tomlin

Lyrics:-

You’re arriving with the sound of thunder and rain
You’re arriving in the calm of the wind and the waves
You’re arriving in the glow of a burning flame
A burning flame

Praise awaits You at the dawn when the world comes alive
Praise awaits You in the darkness and shines in the light
Praise awaits You with a song of love and desire, love and desire

Here comes the King
All bow down
Lift up your voices
Unto the Lamb
He is the King
All bow down
All bow down

You are coming again like a thief in the night
You are coming again with a shout from the sky
You are coming again to take away Your bride
To take away Your bride

Here comes the King
All bow down
Lift up your voices
Unto the Lamb
He is the King
All bow down
All bow down

Yeah, You are the King (2)

You are the King
All bow down
We lift up our voices
Unto the Lamb
You are the King
All Bow Down
All Bow Down

You are the King
All bow down
We lift up our voices
Unto the Lamb
You are the King
All Bow Down
All Bow Down
