World Youth Day 2008 is a Catholic youth festival that will be held from July 15 to July 20 in Sydney, Australia. The 23rd of the World Youth Day celebrations, it will be attended by Pope Benedict XVI. The occasion will mark only the fourth Papal visit to the country.
WYD 2008 will be the first World Youth Day to take full advantage of telecommunications, with Pope Benedict sending daily text messages to the pilgrims and the innovative new WYD08 Social Networking site, which has been launched.
World Youth Day is the largest youth event in the world, and 225,000 are expected to attend it this year.
